Eyes hurt

It has been a while that my eyes hurt, mainly due to many hours spent playing video games during my teen age. But now I am feeling it even more.
Yesterday I spend something like 4 hours in front of the pc studying, and then I went to Church where they were helding a speech about Baptism. Keeping my eyes focused on the speaker, for some time, started to get painful. So I tried to watch closely and only to listen. But sometimes I was looking at the speaker and, then my eyes were hurting so much that it was difficult for me to keep them open even after I returned home. I couldn't do anything but keep them close, so I went to sleep very early because nothing else I could do. I already had similar happenings, but not of this intensity, and I am only 24 years old.

I am getting concerned, because it is mostly due to the many hours that I spent in front of the computer. My sight got used to the very short distance, so when I look farther then a pc, my eyes are not used and strain more than usual to get to focus.
Even for studying or reading stuff, I need to limit these hours. Today I roughly spent 3 hours in total in front of the pc and my eyes already started hurting. I am getting concerned, because what job can I find then? I have already worked 1 year as programmer, then I stopped now for some time. What could I do then? 8 hours in front of a PC it's unthinkable. Other jobs require the jab. And other than the work, what can I do the whole day without a pc, reading or studying for more than 2 hours in front of a pc? I don't have many friends either.
I could read some books, guess it is better than a PC. But it sucks, I don't know what to do.

Idk if it's a coincidence or not but my eyes hurt about a month ago. My right eye became very red and irritated and eyes drops would only stop the pain/irritation for a couple hours. I also could not make eye contact/concentrate with other people or look at something for too long without going crosseyed and just wanted to shut my eyes. They just hurt and wanted to be closed, idk how else to describe it. This went on for about a week and I was about to call up the eye doctor when it immediately went away. I thought it was a severe allergy as I get seasonal allergies but have no idea for sure. It was really one of the strangest experiences I've had and weird that you are dealing with something similar.

Dude, go to an eye clinic and get your eyes checked. You could just be near sighted and need glasses. I am near sighted, but only slightly, so I used to uncounciously squint when looking at distant (more than 15 feet or so) objects, which caused my eyes to hurt and gave me tension headaches. I realized I just needed glasses when I got into shooting. Made all the difference. Hang in there!

Get a comprehension eye exam, thats a start.

I have dry eyes, like Roosh mentions above. That stuff is no joke when it gets serious.

Once you get some idea what might be wrong, then people can suggest treatments.

60 Mhz. I'm guessing that's bad.

Yes, I think it's because 60 Hz is also the grid frequency used on the power grid in the US.
If the refresh rate is the same as the power frequency, then there will be interference.

Hey, I think i have something similar to you with my eyes hurting a bit when I look at a screen for some minutes .. they are also way too dry and just kinda.. irritated..
In my case the cause for all this is LYME disease unfortunately ..
Have you been checked for Lyme?

Are your eyes dry?
Sometimes yes, I felt them dried, couldn't tear out any tear and the eye muscles hurt.

What’s the refresh rate of your screen?

60 MHz, is it okay?

You should consider seeing an ophthalmologist.

I will have a check.

I must also say that this happening also made me reflect and reconsider about how I use and spend my time. I think I should spend more time with good people, and events that may allow me to find good people, instead of spending much time alone, and doing more practical and social things. Of course will need some time alone, but maybe now it is unbalanced.

Watched this recently and randomly that might be of help:

Also, my eyes hurt when I'm in small spaces when i'm with those that have followed the current global medical advice. Very odd I have to say, and I feel relief once I'm out in fresh air away from them.

High computer lighting is killing for your eyes. I put my laptop on like 40 45 pr lighting during the day and 28 30 pr when it's dark. Intense computer light especially when dark outside is a killer. Moreover dim your nornal lights and get a tranquil easy soft orange lighting with your general dim lamps like 470lumen max relaxed ambiance (not very white light). I spend a lot of time behind the pc too and often go out for a walk to get yourbeyes from the screen. They need distance and fresh air. Crucial.

Vitamin A levels could be low. Eat grass-fed liver or supplement, but carefully, because it is toxic when levels become too high.

Let us know what worked!

Another option that may help you is "vision therapy." It is a type of eye training. Back then, you would use books like Magic Eye to relax focus and then other materials provided by the vision specialist to "teach" your eyes to rapidly focus and bring images together. It's sort of teaching them to work together properly. It was tremendously and permanently helpful to me and a friend years ago. It's been a long time but I think it was a few months of this practice that solved the headache problems I was having.

I have a similar problem. The best solution I've done is:
1. Get a higher refresh monitor like 140hz or higher.
2. On macs and PCs enable night light and set it up so it's at its maximum redness. If you don't have this, change the color temperature of the screens so the blues are turned down and the reds way up. Will help you go to sleep at night also. This also works on TVs.
3. Enable dark modes.
4. Get AMOLED screens. Dark mode and the color black will have the pixels turn off which saves power and is easier on the eyes.
5. Take regular look away breaks and we glasses if you need them instead of using contacts.

Shame this is about the best we can do.

I saw an ophthalmologist today.

I do not need glasses, my sight is okay (not perfect, 80%, but no need for glasses).
What the doctor prescribed me is to take some drops when my eyes are dry. But other than this there weren't particular diseases. My eyes are not that bad as she said. She reccomended me to do some exercises for the eyes and to take often breaks from the screen, every 30 minutes.
Plus she prescribed me the glasses that protect from the lights of the computer.
I bought them today and seem to do pretty good I must say. Seems that my mind thinks even more clearly without too much powerful light from the pc into my eyes.
Hope it will be better.

Two minutes break fater every 20 minutes spent in front of a book or computer. That's the most important thing you need to do in order to save your eye-sight.
