What do you think the future of "Sign up using your Facebook" is? I see this more and more...even being the only option to sign up on some sites.

Is this the future of identity crosschecking all over the net? 1984-esq...will everyone be required to have FB much like a drivers license but for the purpose of monitoring and aiding facial recognition software.

Yes, I think it's too much monitoring of what we do. I often wonder if every time my computer tells me it's updating Windows, that I'm being monitored. I wouldn't doubt our country knows everything we do online....in the name of national security.

Just be careful guys and don't share shit to the world. I'm already a secretive person in real life but throw it out the window on here

We treat the online world differently

The problem Smyth points to is not exclusive to reporters. People simply treat the online world differently. We share photos on Facebook we'd never share with strangers in person. And we don't secure our computers the same way we secure our other possessions.

It's difficult to accept the digital universe as a second reality: We simply haven't transferred our behaviors in our actual lives to be consistent with behaviors in our digital lives.

With the launch of Facebook's new Graph Search tool yesterday, this is even more important. For those of you who don't know about Graph Search. There is no question that Graph Search opens up a number of new ways that your content can be discovered and used, including not only content you made publicly available years ago but even stuff you intentionally “hid” from your timeline. That being said: I want to stay PRIVATELY connected with you. I post shots of my family that I don't want strangers to have access to!!! However, with the recent changes in FB, the "public" can now see activities in ANY wall. This happens when our friend hits "like" or "comment" ~ automatically, their friends would see our posts too. Unfortunately, we can not change this setting by ourselves ...because Facebook has configured it this way. PLEASE place your mouse over my name above (DO NOT CLICK), a window will appear, now move the mouse on “FRIENDS" (also without clicking), then down to "Settings", click here and a list will appear. REMOVE the CHECK on "COMMENTS & LIKE" and also "PHOTOS". By doing this, my activity among my friends and family will no longer become public. Now, copy and paste this on your wall. Once I see this posted on your page, 'LIKE' I will do the same. Thanks

- DON'T ADD GIRLS!! I could see adding foreign girls if they're cool and you didn't knock them up. Don't add any in America. Shit can nasty to quick. Y'all should already know though.

I actually disagree with this one when it comes to the younger demographic. If you're a young guy and dating young girls your age (18-24 range) being Facebook friends with them should be fine. I like when prospective girls see there are a bunch of cute girls that have liked my photos or posted on my wall. Usually just meaningless shit that I either don't respond to, or drop a few words that come of as aloof as possible.

It may be pre-selection on Facebook, but it's pre-selection nonetheless. If you consider how much time girls spend on Facebook, this really can work to your advantage. Like someone once said on here, though, you really should let the girls add you. Or you can message them something witty without adding them. I have my profile set so Friends of Friends can add me, but not see any photos besides my profile one.

The one issue with Facebook is the social consensus among girls that relationships need to be "facebook official" for them to be real. The anti-Facebook crowd makes their best case when it comes to this very point, but I still feel that the upside of using Facebook to raise value justifies having an account. At my age, where I am, it's just borderline disqualifying to not have an account.

Again, I stress this is for younger guys. If you're a top-end, older player, you should definitely take Houston's advice here.

I forgot how I did it but on one of my Facebooks I locked my page/profile so that people can post stuff to it but only that one person and I can read it. Also like mentioned above, it is important to use a fake name and prevent your friends from seeing each other.

I always try to avoid signing up with Facebook and just prefer doing it the regular way with email, username and password. I signed up to Spotify with Facebook at first because that was the only option. When they started allowing non - facebook sign ups I created a new account that was private.

When you sign up for something with your Facebook, you are giving them the right to post on your wall without you knowing it since their company now owns your username and password. Don't do it.

Awesome thread! Part of the Playa's Rules should include how to harness and control the power of FB. To that effect, quick question: how do I select which "likes" I want to be seen only to me, which ones only to friends and which ones to public? I was playing with my settings and was disappointed to see that all my likes are public. When I tried to edit them, I couldn't and the only option was to unlike it. Which is not what I want to do, but rather to have more controls over my likes and comments. Can the FB experts assist with that?

Thanks!

^^Why do you even care about liking someone's status anyways? If you like the message why don't you contact. them and tell them?

I garuntee that will get you way furtherr than simply pressing the thumbs up button.

If you call them and lead into the conversation with "hey how's it going? I saw you liked such n such..." I bet they will not only keep you on their mind way longer but you might be able to parlay the conversation into asking them hook you up with business and vice versa.

^^I think he means Liking a page, not someone's status. Yeah, there's a way to hide your Likes from your friends because I did it with a headshop I liked. I don't know about Liking a friend's status or anything like that though.

Reviving this old thread...

A Tinder date on Saturday mentioned that we had a mutual friend... on linkedin (Tinder is Facebook connected only). She let me know, if you put my phone number into the FB search box my profile pops right up (which she cross referenced with linkedin).

Turns out she was right. My phone number was in my profile (forgot that I linked them before a trip one time), but my number wasn't displayed. I want to turn this shit off and control my own information.

- I erase my number, then search from a friends profile. I am still there.
- I feed FB a new number (my work blackberry, who gives a flip). I am still there.
- I research the web, find this article (below). FB is getting my number from my friends contact list!
http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-remove-your-phone-number-from-facebook/

He gives instructions on how to remove it, but they are from 2011 and nothing is in the same place anymore.

Anyone have an idea on how to shut this down?

I think what Ali is asking is for something like..

1. Go into settings on left top of screen and click this then do this.

I have a page with a FAKE NAME and pic with a "spy-bar" across my eyes. All school, job, address, education info is absolute fiction.

I never add pictures, info , or anything else. I never tell anyone about it, it is just so I can look at OTHER PEOPLE'S PAGES.

Facebook settings?
I change the settings on the bitches.

SCENARIO 1:
Bitch: See my pics on my Facebook.

Me: Ok tell me how to find.

Result: I look at her pics, never add as friend.

SCENARIO 2:

Bitch: Tell me your Facebook.

Me: I can't have Facebook I work for the government.
i can send you pics here.(YM, Skype)

Bitch: OK.

I've done it like 10-15 times and they've never questioned it.
If I feel like it I add a joke.

Me: I'm not a spy or anything. I just can't have personal information floating around.

Facebook Maintenance Time: Zero
Time saved at least three apparent lifetimes.

Assume everything you put on facebook will be seen by everyone.

There are two ways to handle this:

1) Put all privacy settings on max, don't let anyone search or tag you without permission, don't post, and basically only use facebook to keep in touch with what distant friends are doing and snoop on others, if you even have one at all.

2) Attention whore the shit out of it, constantly post pics of your bomb lifestyle, and treat it like you're a celebrity or media company, whose only goal is to give you massive social proof.

The first one requires much less work, and not everyone can pull off the second.

I don't even have a facebook, so that should tell you where I stand. I'm working on some projects now that might require the second. Thank god, it's their logo and not my face that's gonna have to shuck and jive for people's attention.

Thousand times this. Post only the coolest stuff you do and make your profile a DHV fountain. I don't get it what's the deal with all privacy unless you want to boost your mysteriousness. Too much privacy and girls will think of you as another boring chump who has nothing to offer. Give them a peek into some of your best pics, have a gallery of professionally done pictures of you, have a pictures with hot girls put on "friends of friends", same with pictures of you doing rock climbing, bunjee jumping, helping orphans, raising a trophy in some sport, shaking hands or hanging out with a celebrity, doing anything exciting and alpha.

Meh.

Instagram is better for DHV.

Anyways, most guys don't have a crazy lifestyle.

Even for those who do, bitches love mysterious guys.

They find one thing they don't like or they learn too much about you, they'll find some hamsterish excuse not to meet.
