Is anyone else annoyed that computer people are calling themselves engineers? When I think engineer I think people who design car engines, bridges, etc. I know "computer engineering" is technically a thing but people who "build websites" being considered engineers leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It's a fine line between the two. Computer "engineering" focuses more on the design of computer systems. As such they need to have a familiarity with programming and with MATLAB in particular but it's not their primary focus.

People tend to confuse the two because engineers can program the needed software-hardware interfaces. That doesn't make them "software engineers" or coders and it doesn't make coders computer engineers.

Basically computer engineers can do the coder's job, but probably not as well while coder's can't do the computer engineer's job.

As a person who has operated a couple website which have dealt with this what usually happens isn't logging in at all. The attacker will usually just piss a bunch of UDP packets at you. Most often they get the packets by finding a bunch of malconfigured routers and "Internet of Things" bullshit they can count on to both conceal them and leverage their own bandwidth up to 20+X depending on how shitty the router is.

The difference between a kid hitting F5 and a kid who knows what they are doing has never been greater due to all of this shitware.
