So you're telling me that soccer--a sport known for it's flopping, diving, embellishing, etc.--has issues with integrity all the way up to the top of it's global governing body?

Who would have thought?

I don't care if these guys get Johnny Cochran and use the Chewbacca defense, they are 100% boned.

When the goddamn Director of the FBI (James E. Comey, the tall guy on the right) is at the press conference announcing your arrest, you are up shit creek without a paddle. By personally putting his face out there, it means the prestige of the FBI is on the line, and they will use any and all resources at their disposal to ensure convictions/guilty pleas.

Their only hope is to give information on Blatter and hope for a reduced sentence.

Has anyone heard or seen anything about changing the location of the 2022 WC? That's the thing I'm most curious about, and the only thing I've seen is that it will remain in Qatar.

I don't know how it's going to work there... the players are gonna get cooked halfway through the group stage.

I've actually never stopped to think about how absurd having the cup in Qatar would be.

I was so focused on 2014 when it was first announced. With that over, I look forward to 2018 in Russia, which I think is a fine choice.

Now that I do stop to think about it.... WTF?

Qatar, nor any of the countries around there are even remotely suitable for hosting the best sports tournament in the world.

I think great options would be the US, England or Spain.

I was always perplexed by the decision of Qatar. Brazil was good because it had a variety of climates and had the ability to have many matches going on in different locations in the country. Have you seen the size of Qatar? It's smaller than Belgium. There's no way that many stadiums could be built to accomodate such an event without the use of, well, extracurricular activities.

I personally would like to see it in an Asian country. I think the sport needs a bigger oriental fan base, and a country such as China or Japan could easily accomodate such an event. Even South Korea could work.

Sepp is fucked though, give it a few years and a few plea deals.

The US must have some fairly airtight evidence, because it looks like once they presented it the Swiss authorities immediately mobilized and acted without pushing back. I'd say these six guys, plus the other ones being hunted, are looking at some time and large fines.

I still don't see why the world cup hasn't been in China yet. What better way to expand your influence into Asia. It still bogs my mind that you see all these countries getting bids and China still hasn't.

Could you imagine a world cup in China? Fucking epic!!!

They say that if it wasn't for the bribes, 2022 would have gone to the U.S.

Qatar was controversial because of their human rights records. It is estimated that about 4,000 immigrants from neighboring countries will die from building these stadiums.

Also, Qatar promised to enact an air conditioning system in their stadiums which will bring temperatures down from 120 degrees Fahrenheit to about 100. Which is still pretty shitty. Its a pipe-dream since this kind of technology cannot be developed that fast. It was just confirmation bias from FIFA which is why they think of having it in the winter.

Another horrible thing that will transpire is that alcohol is banned in Qatar. Fans are fucked when they find out that the bars they go into only serve coffee.

Also, strict laws towards clothing on women. Just imagine what the police would do with Brazilian, Argentinian, and Colombian women flock to this country showing ass and titties with their bikinis all over the place.

The 2022 world cup will be a complete joke. Blatter has already come out and said that having the world cup there was a mistake, but that the decision was irreversible.

Why do countries even bid for the WC? Seems like every country is worse off after the WC comes through. I would hate it if the WC came to America while I'm here. All the morons would come out of the woodwork celebrating an event that they are hardly interested in.

I'm really not surprised that this sporting commission is getting reamed out. About damn time. Every sporting commission needs a major purge.

@midwest we already saw the Olympics in China, which is kind of like the world Cup. Not sure how Argentinian women are getting to Qatar, it's not a high income country.

@Carlos you're right man. The Swiss don't move around quickly and normally put up resistance when it comes to arresting people on another other country's request. The US probably has something nice in the evidence room.

How did the US manage to move so fast to arrest foreign officials in a foreign country over a sport but not one banker has been arrested for the 2008 financial crisis?
