If it was an Islamist attack, this is going to help Trump, heartless as that sounds.
Hillary will be appealing to fear, but as I said, it's an abstract fear. Trump can trump that with a real, concrete fear.
The media outrage will pale in comparison, but Trump is going to force the Overton Window.

If the gunman was a natural US citizen that had been living here essentially his entire life, as opposed to a recent immigrant who was radicalized abroad before arriving, I'm not sure it plays as well for Trump.
Anyone can become radicalized domestically, all that's required is an Internet connection.

CNN confirming the shooter's name is Omar Saddiqui Mateen. Apparently he had some sort of weapons training - don't know if that means he's been to a terrorist training camp.

We should all put the anti-gay pitchforks down for one moment to let this be an example for nationalism.
Not only could this swing over some of the gay vote, but this has potential to pull the blinders off many liberals who want Muslims coming into our country.
Of course, we need confirmation that he is Muslim first. If he's not, who knows how this will play out.

if this is indeed the case, expect the media to give it maximum exposure (the same way they made sure we all knew Zimmerman was "half-white"). Also expect most media coverage to resume this way; "Once again, Donald Trump, still racist."

A bunch of people died who had families, probably mothers and fathers who loved them.
