Glenlivet introduces alcoholic whisky pods that you pop into your mouth

It's just a scam to charge a higher price per ml for the same drink. This is a basic marketing strategy. A similar scam is Keurig coffee pods.

Keurig already has a cocktail maker called the Drinkworks Home Bar - $300 for the unit and about $4 per drink for the refills.

I wonder how sturdy these pods are. Can you carry them around or would they easily break in your pocket?

I'm telling you, if these things taste good or the taste of the whisky is covered up, it's just about opening a market to women. Women don't normally have anything to do with whiskey, weird ones or masculine type whores excluded, but the amount of women who drink regularly has gone up like 60% or something. This is just a fun way to consume whisky without "drinking whisky" so they can get in on the ground floor of a growth market.

I just see this pod as speeding up the acceptance of casual alcoholism. Somewhat akin to the spread of e-cigs, which make it acceptable (or even cool) to be a nicotine addict. The release of these pods is somewhat disconcerting.

We've gotten to a point in the modern world where very few people have any substantial purpose that they can state when asked. The vast majority of 1st world inhabitants are stuck in 9-5s, their only glimmer of hope being the drink they can take after work. I think it's fair to say that office work encourages casual alcoholism, at best. How else would you anesthetize yourself? Drinking is the only thing that keeps a lot of these people alive.

As for the product mentioned: It's alcohol - in a pod! The kick of this is that it makes it way easier to drink, and provides infinitely more stealth than a bottle/flask. Drinking was already easy as it was, this just takes it to the next level. This does not bode well for the general populice, expect to see an uptick in AA attendees post-release.

I don't think your casuals are gonna be popping Glenlivet pods. Trickle the tech to Smirnoff, JD, or Albertsons house brand alcohol and you might have a point.

But problem drinkers already drink to the point of it being a problem, so this isn't any different than a "water" bottle filled with Popov.

I mean there are plenty of mixed drinks that have whiskey in them, Jack n' Coke, whiskey ginger, manhatten, etc. Women drink girly drinks with whiskey in them all the time, most just don't like drinking it by itself.

This is just a dumb gimmick that some manager got way too involved in and couldn't find a way to back out. Should've never made it past the drawing board...

It would make sense if it was like a high end jello shot but how do you swallow after the bag pops and bunch of liquid is in your mouth?

The video on twitter looks really scary.
A 40 yo black woman who looks like she has just realized that she was a slave of the big capital for the last 20 years , a beautiful blonde you will never hug who looks at the capsule like a junkie , and some sort of insignificant man , and a barman full of tattoos.

All this is appealing for the youth , we will probably go into full legalization of any sort of drugs in the future to keep people totally enslaved.

Women are drinking more and heavier. It's a growth area. Stands to reason that making drinking fun and accessible to women behooves your company, especially if you sell a liquor that's polarizing or strong tasting, like whiskey.

I agree. It's more designed for young women to gulp down Whiskey. Plus - it's not high quality Whiskey, so putting it down with candy is the way to go.

It might be a hit frankly similar to those sweet alcohol-mix-drinks that many young women drink.

The plus side is that girls will get drunk faster - the downside being that seducing drunk girls even while being drunk is rape... so....
