Heavy Metal

I believe heavy metal -and other, more extreme genres of metal - always displayed some occultic and often downright satanic symbols.
I believe our American colleagues may be more familiar with death metal bands from the Florida-based death metal scene that got quiet a lot media coverage between cca 1989-1994. (Black metal was never really popular in the US)
Glen Benton, vocalist and bassist for the band Deicide (deicide means "killing god"). Glen made some scary interviews (his radio interviews with Pastor Bob Larson cca 1992 is worth a listening for entertainment purposes. Find them on Youtube.)
As the metal genre has been dying since the mid-1990s and definitely sicne the early 2000s. Glen has also mellowed out. In the mid-2000s he admitted that all that satanic lyrics and imaginery were just for the entertainment but he never believed in them.
Glen is 53 now -his three children all go to Catholic schools.
Another infamous band with occultist lyrics, Morbid Angel. Their former drummer Pedro Sandoval became born again Christian and now plays in a Christian band. The band's former vocalist/bassist Dave Vincent now plays in country band.

What people often forget is that there was never much money to be made in extreme metal -and is simply not popular enough amongst the masses.

It is the mainstream pop music where the musicians probably really need to make some deal with the devil in order to achieve fame and financial success (Rihanna, Nikki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, JayZ etc come to mind)

Out of the most popular extreme metal bands (if you don't count Slayer), I'm not sure if Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, and Deicide together have sold more than 15 or 20 million records over the past 30 years.

media coverage

Oh man, those days were a lot of fun! Things are so screwy in the world right now that we look back on the 90s with fondness, when you could say how much you hate rap and nobody would think you were a weirdo.

0:12 "Hey check it out its Jeremy" :D

As for Pete Sandoval, he was replaced in MA because he had to undergo back surgery for a slipped disc, and I think it was during that time he found God. He ended up going back to his old band Terrorizer. Don't know much about them.

Dave Vincent.....yeah that guy gets around a lot, but ya gotta admit he has a great voice for country. At least he's attempting some kind of vaguely "old fashioned" country instead of going for the Kenny Chesney sound:

There's a Belorussian heavy metal band called God's Tower I'm trying to get into. They have a good song called "Twilight Sun", but I had a glimpse at the lead singer Lesley Knife's instagram and he's unfortunately a zmagar (Tikhanovskaya-supporter).

A lot of people wouldn't consider them heavy metal by today's standard (even though heavy metal has always been a pretty fuzzy category), but Uriah Heep was a giant and one of the best of the genre. Their recent albums are pretty good and worth listening to. Ken Hensley passed away last week, and Lee Kerslake passed away early last month. RIP gentlemen, you gave the world of hard rock and heavy metal some fantastic music. If you've got any interest in heavy metal you're really depriving yourself if you don't own at least their first few albums.

This is why I've often said in the past that Billie Eilish's music and image are far more Satanic than any metal band.

People always ridicule the idea of the finger-wagging church ladies of the 50s and 60s who said that rock n roll would lead straight to the devil. The funny thing, though, is that in hindsight they were right.

I'm pretty big into metalcore, though the genre has really softened up in the new decade. Some of it I like, a lot I don't. I will stick up for ABR and say their first three albums were quite good, pretty unremarkable after that. As for All That Remains, their last three albums have been complete dogshit, what the fuck Phil? Fall of Ideals, Overcome, and We Are Many are their best. New song sounds promising but my god what is that album artwork? Horrific.

New Bleeding Through is...interesting. Definitely a continuation of their The Great Fire sound which I wasn't thrilled with. This is stronger material I think. Still miss Scott's shredding guitar style. I guess I'm just thankful they're back.

Also, has anyone listened to the new Behemoth? Have to say on the first listen it came off very bland and boring. It's all very edgy, but where are the good riffs? The Apostasy and Evangelion were more my thing, never got around to The Satanist but I bet it's a similar edgelord album.

New High on Fire is out too for anyone who's into stoner/sludge. Haven't listened yet.

I have seen Behemoth in concert several times,
they are an awesome band to see perform live.

Did not know Lee Kerslake passed away, truely a great drummer. He and Bob Daisley with Randy Rhoads write all the music on Ozzy Osbourne blizzard and madman albums, There was ongoing litigation around that, Hope they settled. Been listening to Uriah Heep on YouTube recently, very good.

Not a dud song yet from the second album of Killer Be Killed.

For Those About to Rock - The Aussie Rocker are back

Forty years after releasing “Back in Black” — one of the best-selling albums of all time — AC/DC is still plugging away with a new LP, “Power Up,”.

The secret to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band’s staying power is hardly rocket science, though.
