The phrase "believe in love" can mean a number of different things.

Do I believe that there is such a thing, that it exists? Yes. I know that it does.

Do I believe that love, in the sense of passionate erotic love, is the greatest ideal, the most important thing to wish for in a life? No.

Do I believe that someone hasn't lived if they haven't experienced this kind of love? No.

Do I believe that it is necessary to be "in love" to marry someone and have a long and successful marriage? No, I know it isn't. Some of the best marriages of all are ones in which the husband and wife learn to love each other over time in a way that is entirely different from the kind of love we are talking about here.

So I "believe in love" in the sense that I acknowledge its (occasional) existence and its (terrible) power. I do not believe in it as the sanctified and absolute ideal that it is often held to be.

And I think that many intelligent men ruin their lives by believing that their best and deepest experience of life must be the experience of romantic love.

I have written on this before. But just to make another point.

It is impossible to hypnotise somebody who doesn't believe in hypnosis.

The same with love. Unless you believe in it to begin with - you will never experience it.

That's not entirely true. I've studied up on hypnosis and read a few books by Milton Erikson. He claims you can hypnotize someone indirectly.

Example: You have the therapist, the patient and the unbelieving observer. Because the 3rd person doesn't believe in hypnosis he can never be hypnotized as the direct patient but being an "observer" in a therapy session his defenses would be lowered and is still succeptible to what the therapist wants to implant.

It's classic indirect game. Gaming a girl by ignoring her and gaming her friend.

Well - hypnosis is a very strange thing. It doesn't exist either.

But people can convince themselves they are hypnotised - but only if they believe in it to begin with.

But hypnosis itself is bullshit. Which is why it is impossible to hypnotise somebody into doing something really bad. As it is impossible to hypnotise a chick into sleeping with a guy she doesn't want to.

Hypnosis is a circular belief system. Built round a giant MacGuffin. It is a form of placebo effect.

Possibly. But the experiences that provoke this kind of love are characterized by a terrible physical and emotional intensity. It can be hard for a man to know truly how he would respond to such experiences.

To what depth are your or anyone's beliefs really held? It's not always easy to know until they're tested.

If a girl that is close to your ideal in terms of her type, appearance, personality etc, were to fall in love with you and give you all the sex and all the affection you could ask for, would you not fall in love with her? Maybe, but I'm not sure of it.

Beliefs and ideas can sometimes seem very thin in the face of something that is experienced as an overwhelming reality. Not always -- there are men whose beliefs go all the way down, so to speak. But it's not always easy to know this even about oneself.

I guess.

But - I still think alot of love is built around idealising other people. Indeed - I wonder if you are very religious if that stops you from going overboard in the feelings you have for another woman? Since you already have 'God' on your pedestal - and don't have room for another.

I am very confident I will never fall in love. But even if I never do - it doesn't prove anything either way. I just have a way of looking at the world which is rock solid. In the same way I am sure I will never believe in God.

PS I am the happiest person I know. So don't think of me as being bitter or anything! :)

They'll never get full power in England. The monarchy is the default system of rule. You can't be voted in. They'd have to be over 50% of the population for that to be a possibility. I think the Brits will get a little a sick of the Sharia thing and revolt at some point. England is a small country and it's not a democracy like the US.

WTF?
Like muslims (at least the classic father, married, 2-3 children, who works hard to sustain his family) want to apply Sharia? Like the Western muslims want to apply it? Or is it the African ones? Or the Asian ones?

Stop eating up everything you see in the medias. Come back when you've opened your ears and eyes, and really saw what's up in the muslim families, especially the ones with, like, parents, 2-3 children, parents working hard to earn a living, in a western country.

Seriously, "the Sharia thing"
So for you, the majority of us are people who are secretely trying to invade you, inject islam into the womb, and colonize you? Like, we are not even people who just want to live their lives and don't give major fucks about religion? (If you bothered to carry your own study, you would see that most muslims in Western countries mostly care about their family, and that's it. Hence they won't go protest in the medias against being discriminated, or something like that-except the attention whores-, because they truly don't care what the other people think about islam, only if they are denied a job or their rights BECAUSE they are muslims, which is anticonstitutional.
)

Fear, the evil muslim guys will come soon and invade you, you'd better carry a sword (or better, a glock, like in that ad) against them, Allah can't go through the safety of the American/British weapons!

Seriously, your post

Trying to change your friends can end up with them thinking you have a hate for women.

I am always trying to drop knowledge on my clueless bros and they just think i'm nuts.
