RE: "I Have Coronavirus/Cold/Flu Symptoms" thread I've found that most of my coughing is due to acid reflux. I've gotten used to taking a Pepcid AC as soon as I start coughing. I can recognize when other people cough due to this as well, now that I've become aware of it. When I get a bad cold, apparently the acid stomach is riled up, or something, and it is far, far worse. About every 5-10 minutes, the acid boils up my esophagus. It irritates my throat, making me cough. It also goes down my wind pipe a little, making me have to cough up crud as my lungs try to flush it out. Finally, the irritation makes my sinuses dump suddenly, which causes post nasal drip and aggravates the cough even more. About the time I get the crud coughed up from my lungs, and get my sinuses blown out and settled down, and get my throat to stop tickling, the acids bubbles up the next time, and the cycle repeats. I take Nexium or Previcid when this happens. It takes a few days for Nexium or Previcid to take effect, so you have to get some and start right away when you realize this pattern is happening. You can take Nexium and Pepcid AC together., as they have different methods of operation and do not have drug interactions. Important Note: On the Nexium package, they tell you to take one pill every 24 hours. However, if you look up the dosage information online, you can take up to two every 24 hours. This is what I do when this problem is happening. You are only supposed to have a max of two Pepcid AC per day. Sleeping on an incline can help. Also, try to eat a modest dinner at least 3 hours before bedtime, so your stomach is more settled when you go to bed. Finally, when I'm having bad coughs that keep me awake all night, I sleep with a cough drop in my mouth. I leave it up against the cheek, and don't roll it around in my mouth. It can last a long time like this, and will stay there while you go to sleep, soothing my throat just enough to prevent coughing.
