Indigenous Peoples Day

wsquared, I agree with you 100%, but most Americans have had any national pride programmed out of them, especially in the City of Assholes. Sure, they'll wear the American flag and drink piss, I mean Bud Light on the 4th of July, but that doesn't really count.

The fact that a woman is involved makes it even more likely you'll be fired.

Wsquared, this will be a learning experience for you. I don't think it will go well, and likely you will face passive aggression and hostility with plausible deniability. I think you should have been less apologetic in your messaging, asking for respectful consideration for un-PC views always has the opposite effect.
Best of luck.
Long term, the answer is to BE IN A POSiTION OF POWER.

Hey, if they want to celebrate "Indigenous people's day" instead of Columbus day, I'll celebrate Robert E Lee day instead of MLK day.

Starve their rainbow-hued skeletal husk of any respect undeserved. Don't hate them, ignore them. Always maintain frame. Let their constant emotionally-run state of affairs be their downfall. If you are stuck in this position, start planning multiple routes to go to get yourself free from globohomo as an independent agent, or setting up a small company where you and a few other hard-working guys can work and perform a service that none of these globalist dunces can do (there are many) and each get their pay without worrying about the (((economy))) or (((HR))) or any of this stupid shit that is a non-issue.

Sorry you have to deal with this btw.

If they are going to rename it, they should just drop it as a holiday instead. We don't need another worthless holiday that gives lazy banks a day off.

Columbus Day Cancelled and Switched to Indigenous Peoples Day, Thoughts?

Apparently this year will be the last time Columbus Day will be a national holiday and will be replaced by Indigenous People's Day.

https://www.axios.com/columbus-day-...ues-fd73b812-53c8-4e22-97a6-cde6c956dc35.html

Many Americans got the day off Monday because of Columbus Day, but the federal holiday is instead being celebrated as Indigenous Peoples Day in many spots throughout the nation.

The big picture: Roughly 10 states and 100+ U.S. cities observe some version of Indigenous Peoples Day this month. Native American advocates have been working since the early 1990s to get states to make the swap, the AP reports.

The latest: As tensions over the holiday's original intention rise, Columbus statues in San Francisco and Providence, Rhode Island, were vandalized with red paint Monday, CNN reports.

"Vandals had chained a sign to the base of the statue that said 'Stop Celebrating Genocide' and spray painted the word 'Genocide' on the monument."
What they're saying:

"It's about celebrating people instead of thinking about somebody who actually caused genocide on a population or tried to cause the genocide of an entire population," Baley Champagne, tribal citizen of the United Houma Nation, told NPR.
"While Columbus Day affirms the story of a nation created by Europeans for Europeans, Indigenous Peoples Day emphasizes Native histories and Native people — an important addition to the country’s ever-evolving understanding of what it means to be American," writes historian Malinda Maynor Lowery.
The other side: "By renaming the holiday Indigenous People’s Day, they have decided to emphasize the sorrier aspects of Western colonization and conquest of the Americas rather than its virtues," writes Washington Post columnist Henry Olsen.

More history revisionism, par for the course these days. They did the same with taking down the statues of confederate generals. They’ll never get Stone Mountain though

1) We already have a thread about this.

2) Why have none of you wished me a happy Indigenous People's Day?

Aloha!

Here is something funny you can do at your local used record store next year. Look and see if they have the third and final Nazz album, Nazz III, from 1971. If they do, check out the back cover, and when you see the song title "Christopher Columbus" TOTALLY FREAK OUT!!!

Say that you're triggered and demand free records. Maybe you'll get them.

By the way, Nazz was Todd Rundgren's old band. Even though he didn't write this song, it might be amusing to swarm his Facebook page next year on Columbus Day and see if we can get him canceled. Then he can sing "Goodbye, It's Me." Hahahaha.

Well - happy one to you. You already have your native island back - the Japanese make it more Nippon-Hawaiian island, but close enough and I don't think you are worse off for it.

Though the day was less about North American expansion/conquest than about the Columbus one which frankly toppled one lousy system. No Hawaiian would want to live there.... (except for the ones at the top who hoarded 50% of all the young women to themselves on top of cutting out hearts - guess they would have been for it....)

The North American Natives have a different day to be thankful for European colonization - Thanksgiving - a day where one native tribe instead of wiping out the settlers decided to share some crops and game with them. Everyone can decide what was better.

Though frankly - sooner or later someone from the developed West or East would have come to the Americas anyway. No idea whether European tech from 1780 or the Japanese imperial fleet from the other side would have been so much better.

I never had the day off from school. On only one job did I have the day off. I hardly care about Columbus Day.

If we are going to have a day that honors an explorer, then let's make 20 July a holiday. At this point, the moon landing is much more significant than Christopher Columbus coming from Spain to the Western Hemisphere.
