I can't decide whether to put thai or italian food first on my list, but I'm surprised by the wide love for mexican food, can anyone back that up?

There must be more to it than what we know mexican food as in Australia - the same shitty beef mince, beans, chili and corn mix slopped onto some kind of bread, with the only difference between dishes being the way the tortilla is folded.

Australia being so far away from Mexico and having little immigration from Mexicans explains why "Mexican food" there would be uninspiring and people would be unfamiliar with the cuisine in general.

There is an enormous variety of foods, flavors and ingredients in Mexico.

Look on Youtube for clips of the show "Mexico One Plate at a Time" to get an idea of what it's about.

Come on guys...

Mushy Peas with the right amount of butter, lemon and mint tastes great.

Spread it on toast. Tastes much better than baked beans any day.

When I go out trolling its strictly ahi mahi mahi and marlin. I've been having somewhat bad luck lately for like three months. I'm only landing really small stuff. I fought something for about 2 hours last week that had to weigh 600 pounds but lost it.

Aloha!

You were trying to catch and steal my own avatar! Well, it's Hemingway-grade powerful stuff you're living right here!

Ok, so there are definitely a lot of things on here that look good, especially the cold meats, fresh cheese and grilled veggies.

But as I've done it before on various food threads here, get it through your thick skulls, Chicago deep dish is the best!

P.s. Fuck those mushy peas!

Chicago knows how to make pizza like the cubs know how to win titles.

Anyway, not everything is open to interpretation and relative in the world. For example, regarding the best food of the world, the most refined and diverse, almost all (honest) professionals agree that it is the French who win gold, just before the Italian (and many people put the Vietnamese third). It's because I am told that the professionals value (above all) the sauces, and sheer variety and quality of products.

Don't be ridiculous.
Chinese, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and Italian food walk all over French cuisine.

But alright, de gustibus non est disputandum.

Some of the best pizza I have had was from Chicago. There is this chain there called Giordano's and I that shit is good. One tour there one year me and the bandmates stopped at the one downtown and got one with hamburg, sausage, and chicken I think. Every slice was a meal and it was fucking delicious. I ate those leftover for the next 3 days.

My favorite pizza is Sal's Pizza from Massachusetts. Admittedly I'm biased because that's where I grew up and Sal's is the best local pizza franchise north of Boston. Pizzas are huge, crust is soft, and shit is just delicious.

I really think it's time to stop pedestalizing pizza. It's nothing more than cheap dough covered in cheap cheese. Sure it's delicious, but it's the culinary equivalent of Filipino girls - cheap, easy, fun, satisfying in the short term, but ultimately unfulfilling. Truly great meals require good quality meat, good quality vegetables and good quality company.

Pizza sucks.

So pizza is 2/10 pointy elbows for you?

Pecorino Romano is not "cheap"...nor is Mozzarella di bufala.

Still...you can make an excellent pizza for five bucks worth of ingredients.

Pointy elbows aren't even a part of it. Pizza is simply 2/10.

I suck at being a "foodie", I can't get into Mexican, Thai, Indian or any other overly spicy food. I think its because all my parents fed me growing up was meat and potatoes style meals, exotic to me was Canadian style "Chinese": sweet and sour chicken balls with beef and broccoli. I didn't really try any foreign food until I was into my twenties and still cannot stomach sushi but I do like the bland Colombian food that visitors to that country always complain about.

I home make my own pizza with ingredients from the grocery store. I only eat out pizza if I have no other option or if it's truly high grade. I've dropped $25 on a damned good pizza at a local Italian joint. Some of the best in the world.

Not to mention their craft beer selection(this should summon Travesty to this thread).

That's how I feel about steak. I rarely get steak when eating out simply because I've never had a steak at a restaurant that tastes better than steak I make myself, and it's grossly overpriced no matter where you go.

Cooking my own steak is a painstaking process, and it has to be just right. Though the satisfaction of sitting down and eating it is all worth it. Like with good wine. Good outside steak usually costs upwards of $60+.

American breakfasts. Just throw some eggs, meat and taters on a pan and cook it. Pancakes, waffles, biscuits, toast, and grits are optional.

Everything else is fancy pants nonsense in comparison.

It is starting to look like me and Vinman are the only ones who are in favor of eating light in summer.

There is a testosterone signaling creep to this thread.
