Was going to offer Canadian food.
Too bad scotian with his personal story already blew the cover on why it is a complete joke.
What I loved about "Canadian" Food growing up was that none of it was really Canadian....I mean yes there is some very canadian food (newfoundland) but not a lot. It was a european world tour of cuisine.
I foundit was mostly food recipies brought by european immigrants, and now middle east/asian immigrants.
Growing up I was able eat out at restaurants like legitimate english fish and chips shops or french fry trucks (the grandfather of the hipster food truck), or go to greek diners that had greek food, ukranian food, german or finnish food. As time went on those places closed and became thai or middle eastern....and these were in the suburbs.
When i got to america, my fellow amercian suburban dwellers had never heard of half of the things I'd eaten, let alone could find a restaurant that served them.
Also, Canadian-ized chinese food is a real thing like Scotian said. There are certain items...like buttered toast or giant sweet/sour chicken balls that aren't the same in americanized chinese food.
Canadian-Chineese food is much better than USA-Chinese food.
It is completely BS and foreign to the original Chinese stuff but for what it is, it can be a decent meal if you get good quality stuff.
Also. What Canada is good for (regional in the West) is a good Buffet/Smorgasboard.
In Canada you can find good Chinese buffets, home style buffets that serve pot roast and roasted turkey, or very good hotel bunch buffets with excellent choices. This is all very regional though which is part of the problem with Canada cuisine.
I grew up with good buffets. I like having the option of going to a place and trying everything and being able to eat as much or little as I want.
Another Canadian quirk is "Greek-Canadian" Pizza. The Greeks know how to make humble food the best like pizza, sandwiches, burgers. So many diners owned by Greeks as noted serve up good cheap meals.
They have a style of pizza here which is more common in Western Canada then out East.
This would be the middle ground between disgusting Chicago Deep Dish which is plate of slop and traditional style Western pizza more are familiar with.
This Canadian Greek style pizza is baked in a pan, but with a crust not as thick. The curst gets chewy and is still soft with a good ouster crush for some crunch. The cheese goes on top so it gets color and more taste to it. And lastly, the toppings which are played more thick then regular pizzas so you get a ton of meat and veggies and since it is more filling it tastes much better with vegetables such as green pepper, onions, tomato as they lighten up the layers meat on the pizza. Many folks here will order an all-dressed, or meat lovers with green pepper or tomato added on.
Canadian Bacon is also good. I like regular bacon but it is salty and greasy as hell. Canadian Bacon since it is lean you can actually enjoy in more ways and it crisps up nice when you throw it in some high heat to sear.
Bannock and Bumbleberry Jam is also a good Canadian staple. This is very good comfort food that I used to eat all the time as a kid.
Overall though only Atlantic Canada and Quebec have broad cuisine where you could serve foods in all different courses all day long. Montreal stuff becomes cliche but it is like that for a reason. Montreal smoked meat is DAMN GOOD and Montreal Bagels from St Viateur are DAMN GOOD.
