The Old Testament outright supports it, and the New Testament is ambivalent, just commanding that masters treat their slaves well and that slaves obey their masters. Nevertheless, slavery seems like a great evil to me. As just one example, look at how much both black and white Americans have suffered because of slavery. As far as I know some of the 17th and 18th century popes were the first to ever question its morality, to their credit. That said, I don't see any scriptural evidence that God is against the practice.</blockquote>
