Is the tide turning? And wtf is wrong with American women.

And yet her friends were on his side. That should settle it right there.

I didn't say she wasn't in the wrong. She acted like a cunt, but both were wrong. He should have asked her if he could use the weight, and she should have politely told him that she was using rather than throwing a childish temper tantrum.

Same scenario.

Tuthmosis: You should really learn some gym etiquette. This isn't your personal exercise room. Go ask up front.

Just ruined her week without losing my temper.

That wouldn't work here. You have to be a dick nobody cares about the front desk. It's on until the cops come always so go for the gold or silver at least

I reserve gym etiquette for people who are there to work hard.

A girl taking up a bench rack with 20 pounds with a 10 minute social period in-between sets, then coming at you with attitude like that deserves to be told to fuck off. Respect to the dude who sided with Neo.

Seriously, 20 pounds? Hit the free-weights ho.

wtf does the weight have to do with it? Getting at her for socializing in the gym is one thing which is legitimate (I hate gym socializers), but why does the weight shes pulling have anything to do with it? Plus, 20's on each side is pretty good for a female.

I see dudes in the gym with 5's and 10's each side, but I'm not going to hate on them for having low weights. If they are at the gym and lifting trying to improve, I have to respect for that. I don't get this elitist attitude where guys have to putdown dudes who are benching 100 lbs as if they have less right to be at the gym as you do.

No, not 20 pounds each side. 20 pounds total. The weight isn't even really the issue.

The issue is that the girl had attitude and needed to be taken down a peg. If a dude came at me the same way I would have told him to wait his turn.

Well the fact that he mentioned her friends were bigger than him which means he isn't probably bigger and the fact that he mentioned that he was worried that he could get beat up by those dudes. In my time at a gym, I have never seen a big guy return and the other person not relinquish it. I guarantee if that was Ronnie Coleman asking for it back, he gives it back. But in this case its a chubby girl so hes not worried about her.

I said they were 'big', that doesn't translate to bigger than me. This is real life and not a bruce lee movie. A group against against one guy, the odds would have been against me despite their size.

The point was this girl was gone for a while, she was going around the gym trying to be the social queen while other people were trying to actually work out. Then she cops a major attitude and demands that I put her weight back on the bench. Many people at my gym never rerack the weight and just leave it there even when the station is empty.

I'll be real here, it was the way she said it and acted that made me react the way I did. If she would have asked me nicely I wouldn't have had any problems. The fact that she decided to accost me with the attitude of 'You better do this or else' well she can fuck off. Imagine the scenario, she says 'Take your weight off and put mine back on.' Who does that to a near stranger? I've had a few tense situations with girls in bars and clubs, but this was in the evening after work with no alcohol involved and she thinks she can go around bossing people around.

99% of guys wouldn't have been dicks about it and we would have shared the bench. Also if a big guy was using the bench there would probably be like two or three 45s on each side, making it clear that it's actually in use. If a guy approached me with the same type of attitude I would have stood my ground regardless of his size.

I think you were in the wrong. If someone used that bench and there were weights left and asked you to give it back, you do. Thats the etiquette. If I go to the bathroom and I return, I do expect the person to remove their weight when if I was using the bench.

NONSENSE

The one thing I have learned from game that translates into real life with women is that under few circumstances are you to take them seriously.

The best way to deal with them is to treat them like children. They can do all the stomping, screaming, sidewalk hogging they want - nothing changes - they are like children and I treat them as such.

a stern stare, direct firm short communication usually does the trick and snaps them out of "take me seriously zone". Ignoring them completely also works.

In this case, ignoring the girl altogether would have worked too - literally ignoring everything she says and pretending she doesn't exist.

I have observed women with this kind of attitude before. She was obviously not a hardcore gym girl or otherwise she would have known better. Females and serious training for guys don't usually mix. It may sound sexist, in my experience free weights is a male domain, aerobic room or machine area is for women. There are a few exceptions, as some women do know their way around the gym, for the most part they don't have a clue.

No chance I relinquish the bench in this scenario. If she was hotter I would probably be more playful about it. But this fat feminist entitled attitude expecting you to submit to a request completely against the grain of gym etiquette is absurd. Because I take my gym time very seriously as its one time of the day strictly to myself. I would have tilted and said something like, ” use the bench over there, oh and next time try not to take 10 minute breaks between sets, it would really help your figure...”

What do you guys if you're learning against the bar and a girl asks you to move out of the way so she can get a drink?

I typically just ignore them or say something dumb like "yeah i just got a drink here too" if they keep pushing. I've also had white knight-ish guys come up and try to push me out of the way so she can get a drink.

That's some wild shit.

One time I was walking around, and I look like a small dude, but at the time I was lifting some heavy weights, but I don't really wear muscle shirts or anything like that, so you can't really tell.

I was facing, talking to friends on my right side, walking along, when ALL OF A SUDDEN, I felt someone run almost right into middle of my body, and just bounce off, like they were trying to check me and I just plowed them over cos I was kind of animated and talking.
Before I know it this person is already past me and I turn around. IT's A GIRL.

This bitch just ran into a brick wall I don't what she was thinking she had the whole damn sidewalk.

I just couldn't believe it I was telling my friends did you just see that??! Cos it happened so fast, I almost knocked the chick on her ass without even meaning to.

Anyways that's some wild shit though, you really need to assert yourself just walking down the street nowadays.

I was waiting for a seat at my gym to do some ancillary arm workout or another (there's only 2 of the kind in the entire place). There's noone else around me, and when the dude was done with it I grab my weights and start to sit when this women grabs the back of the seat and says 'Hey, I'm going to use this.'
'I've been waiting here for a while, you can use it after me.'
She gave me the absolute chilliest, withering look I have EVER seen (If looks could kill, I would have been a charred, smoking corpse on the ground, that is how venomous this fucking glare was), and then replies with 'Really?' in the form of a statement. She was mid-late 30s with fake tits and weirdly defined muscles; one of those older broads that probably used to be hot and thinks that working out constantly will save her failing looks.
I held her gaze, nodded, said 'Yeah.', sat down, and started my workout. I could see her staring at me from the mirrors that lined the wall for a good 20 seconds after I started before walking away, shaking her head, and complaining to the meathead that she came in with.
In my experience it's always the older gym rats, especially women, who have the worst attitudes. I don't know why this is.

To the OP, he did the right thing, he asked if it was being used which is polite; besides gym time isn't schoozing hour. after a certain period you can't just leave the bench for 15 min and come back to claim it, whether you're benching 20 or 200. Totally out of pocket.

She probably just took too much no xplod and was wilding out pushing her little weights.

But on the same token, if you're kinda weak trying to act hard in the gym you're going to get checked by people that outrank you, and rightly so. I've met those kinds of people too, that are weak as hell trying to claim territory and generally overcompensate when they should just stay humble and focus on the workout.

I can't imagine why anyone would defend her in this instance? I have worked out in many gyms and you just don't leave the equipment you are working out on and expect it to be empty when you get back.

I feel for the OP, I have not had any experiences myself but seen many of the same type of altercations. Women just thinking they own the world and men should just get out of the way.

Do your workout and then leave.

These are just other shining examples of American women trying to act like men. Get used to it. Unless there's a total breakdown in society (depression) they'll continue to act this way. Don't expect to see an "it's ok to be feminine" campaign in our lifetimes.

This is also why I hate public gyms. For years we had to deal with the regular meatheads fucking off on the free weights, and now women are doing it to. It's a poison environment. I'd rather do circuit training and avoid those places all together.

Exactly.

If you're at the gym and you want to keep using a piece of equipment you stand next to it or stay seated on it. There's nothing worse than when someone at the gym leaves a piece of equipment for a couple of minutes and kind of puts you in that no mans land for whether or not you should take their weight off and use it.

Makes for some awkward moments from time to time.
