It was just initial speculation, but the more I heard and read about this trend of veganism/vegetarianism on the rise, the more I'm convinced that it's push to lower the average levels of testosterone in the Western man, which is already low given the current lifestyles and fitness of average men today. I've seen soyboys on vegan discussion groups openly admitting that veganism was horrible for their testosterone levels as well.
