Hi everyone. I'm an Orthodox Catechumen from South America and have been aware of this forum for some time. I grew up Protestant and discovered Orthodox Christianity during lockdowns. I don't live close to an Orthodox Church so having the online community has been a real blessing for me however it is largely male-dominated so I thought it would be nice to connect with like-minded women on here. I am single, and enjoy cooking, baking, crafting, reading, and spending time out in nature. Blessings and I look forward to getting to know you all.
Welcome, we're happy to have you!

Hi Everyone. Would just like to say how refreshing it is to finally land on a site which respects our traditional Christian heritage. It has been the backbone of our civilization since it's inception. I was born and raised Catholic but have become somewhat disillusioned with the current liberal attitudes of the RCC. I guess that would make me Orthodox curious.
Anyway, blessings to all, and it's a pleasure to be part of this community.

It is not...great to make the assumption how welcoming you christian women are here!! Ill find myself another forum thank you.
It didn't sit right with me to not say anything, however it may be too late at this point.

This forum (as you've seen) isn't very welcome to discussions regarding gnosticism/new age ideas, and I think that's technically against the rules. I don't think the lady responding to you meant to offend you, it was just that she knew nothing about you other than your religious views and that your story may be "shocking," and wanted it to be known that she had no interest in it if were related to gnosticism/new age. However, you're still welcome here and I hope you come back and follow some of the threads. There's a wealth of information on various topics and much to learn.

Thanks

Hello, I just signed up after viewing this forum for sometime. I am in a similar situation as Miss Milkshake here, only I was not raised Catholic, as my (divorced) parents are not religious at all. I was only baptized as an infant in the RCC. I did not receive my First Communion and Confirmation until I was an adult and came to God and Jesus Christ on my own. We are living in times that are overtly under evil forces as most people have turned their backs against God for so many decades, it keeps getting worse. I am here to learn from likeminded people and continue to grow as a Christian. I have had a lot of bad things happen to me throughout my life and for this I see as a blessing because I would have never turned to God and Jesus if I had not had disappointment happen to me. God and Jesus is all I have. My salvation is what is most important to me. I currently attend Mass as I am already confirmed in the Catholic Church. I am well aware of the infiltration at the higher ups of the RCC. However, I do not let that stop my faith in God and Jesus Christ. There is a Russian Orthodox Church where I live and I am open and would like to inquire more. I would like to give thanks to Roosh for having a women’s forum here. Reading his articles and seeing videos about his journey to Christianity is inspiring and have learned a lot from him.

Thanks

Hello! I’ve lurked on here for far too long. I would like to thank this forum and whoever posted about the book “Everyday Saints” several years ago, because that suggestion helped bring me and then my family into the Church and we changed our lives drastically. I was baptized Orthodox overseas when I was a child and fell away from the Church as a teenager. Through the grace of God, I was searching for the proper etiquette in addressing a monk, and I stumbled upon a banner ad for Orthodox Talks by Father Kosmas. Specifically, the child-rearing talks (70-77 I think). I shared them with my husband, and eventually our children and my husband were baptized. I used to work full-time in the medical field, but I’ve been a SAHM for several years now. My motivation for finally joining is that I like to share homemaking/life tips with like-minded women, but so many online spaces (even for Orthodox women, sadly) lean pretty liberal, and to say some common sense things is controversial. Anyway, thank you for having me!

Welcome! We're happy to have you. I'm also a SAHM and (beginner) homesteader so I'm sure I'll find your posts helpful :)

Hello,
I am a married Orthodox Christian with children.
It is a struggle to be truly Orthodox in this day and age. When I first got married, I lead a more secular life compared to today, and can honestly say that I was Orthodox in name only. However I did attend church services and breastfed my children for 2 years + each! These kinds of things were frowned upon and ridiculed.

When I reflect on the years gone by, I feel that I’ve yearned for God my whole life.

I truly believe that God saw my good disposition and I have come closer to Orthodoxy than I would have ever imagined.
I love to read the Lives of the Saints, and New and Old Testaments. I’m immersed in reading on how the Saints have interpreted the Gospel and reading their footnotes. Some of my favorites are Father Seraphim Rose, Saint Matrona of Moscow, Saint Luke of Crimea, Saint Panteleimon, Saints Damian and Cosmas, Saint Justin Popovic, Saint Xenia, Saint Mary of Egypt, Saint Brigid of Ireland, and the Russian Royal Martyrs.
I attend Divine Liturgy regularly. When I miss a service because of monthly menses I feel my spiritual batteries waning. I love going to unction services. I have a spiritual Father. And like minded spiritual brothers and sisters. I have a prayer rule. My secular friends have seen a big change in me. They can’t believe how much I love God and the Church. They must think I’m really ‘out of it’ for giving up worldly life- if only they knew I gave up glam life for night vigils! For real. They ask me often to take me with them to monasteries, to bring them back myrrh, or an icon. The thing is, that real contentment and joy only comes from continual repentance and doing God’s commandments.
I love my family, and it’s important for me to teach the faith to my children, mostly by my prayers and by example.

It is of utmost importance to know our Faith and not to compromise the Truth with semi-truths or lies, in order to ‘keep the peace’.

I wish I had known someone like me, not because I’m anything special, but you don’t see that many young people who embrace Orthodoxy in our day and age. I feel it is especially needed in our times. So if I can be a help to anyone, in any way… please keep me, a sinner, in your prayers.

Lord Jesus Christ Son of God Have Mercy on Me.

This is nice to hear! Have always been interested in hearing other individuals’ experiences during liturgical services while worshiping as an Orthodox Christian! Hope you will continue to share liturgical experiences from time to time!
  • The Beatitudes during Liturgy are beautiful are they not?
  • When worshiping in church is it more of a chant or singing “Bless the Lord, O My Soul” and Praise the Lord, O My Soul” ?
  • With angels being are excluded during the rite of proskomedia found it interesting that 5 prosphora are used, is this correct?
God bless!
