She looked like a psychochick. I bet she did add a splash (or more) of vodka to everything! And not just at parties!
No more wire hangers!!

She was notoriously short fused and particular with her children. And I read a lengthy bio called The Great Feud about she and Betty Davis. Joan sounded wildly competitive and totally work and fame oriented. She died poor and alone, but still responded to as many fan letters as possible.

Our family is in the Calvin and Hobbes reading phase now. Good times. Good childhood memories

This exchange is making me laugh hahaha. My son is in the "YUCK" phase right now and I'm caught between millennial parenting "well don't eat it if you don't like it" and old school mom brain "TOO BAD"
1980's hillbilly parenting was, "You'll eat what's on the table or go hungry."

I have a child who is a picky eater and would rather go hungry than eat something he doesn't like or hasn't tried before. When I used to take him to occupational therapy, they thought that it was because of sensory issues. I'm not so sure. I think maybe he's just picky.

Anyway, they cautioned me against what they called "forced eating". Pffft. As limited as his list of acceptable foods is right now, it would be a lot smaller if I hadn't made him eat things he didn't want. I just love how they make it sound like it's edible rape or something if I make him try something new before letting him eat what he wants.

I was that child. Thankful to the Lord, was a pretty healthy and active individual regardless of food intake.

Sound logical as a mom.
Our taste buds develop as we grow.
Do not be surprised if he grows out of his pickiness and becomes an individual who will eat just about anything.

This is use to be a favorite episodes of Mr. Rogers about food on the plate 1540:
Mr. Costa :"I use to put too much spaghetti on my children's plate and they would not eat it.....
Mr Rogers: "Children do not want great big portions of anything on their plates."

My in-laws are picky eaters so I wonder if there's a genetic component. Could be a texture thing. Who knows (I don't)

Unless it's junk food! LOL

If I can somehow tie a food into hunting or dinosaurs, he's more likely to try it with a somewhat open mind. That's kinda hard to do for vegetables. He's telling me that he wants to buy a farm when he's 18, so maybe I can convince him that farmers love veggies and grow lots of them.

I've always been a picky eater, but not nearly as bad as my son. So I know where he got it from, and that's why I don't think his problem is sensory/texture. My daughter did have problems with food texture when she was very young. We just worked with her on it, she got over it, and now she's not picky at all.

That's normal. The only things I don't really like are coconut because I threw it up as a kid, and I like some mushrooms more than others.

Otherwise, I'll eat it!
