Got it done a little before midnight tonight! My son was thrilled. It's so satisfying making things for my kids because they always love it. They don't notice small imperfections either; they're too busy being happy about whatever I made them. It's just lots of fun.
Wohoo! I know that feeling!!
They love it because *you* made it. For Christmas, I attempted to knit my husband a reading/lap blanket but I greatly underestimated the size lol. But I was so surprised (and it totally warmed my heart) that all my kids wanted it to sleep with it. And now my two youngest take turns with the knit blanky… (forget the baby quilts I made for them while they were yet to be born   lol)

Your posts about turning jeans into skirts inspired me, so I dug out my old jeans and found two pairs, and possibly a third one, that can be turned into skirts for my daughter.

What I did not expect was to also find three skirts that don't fit me anymore that she can wear with minor alterations! I had totally forgotten about them. I'm so glad. It's hard to find decent, modest skirts. I was planning to make her some skirts, but fabric is a little expensive, so it's great to be able to give her skirts that are basically free, just a little effort required. One is kinda worn, so it will be for around the house. The second is in good shape. The third is like new, as I only wore it a handful of times. The third one is also a style she really likes.

Glad to hear! The 20 yr fashion cycle is a good thing! LOL

I've found most normie department stores have long skirts in the misses section, albeit made out of some terrible synthetic fabric. Thrift stores have always been good to me.

If I ever get my stuff off tbe ground I'll send you pics!

That's so cute! It really makes you want to do more for them, doesn't it? You should save their baby quilts for when they have babies. ;)

Yeah, most long skirts nowadays are made out of awful fabric. Not only does it look terrible after just a few washings, but a lot of it is clingy too, which isn't very modest. I try to be careful about that because I don't want to teach my daughter that it's okay to go around wearing stuff that clings to your rear end.

I'd love to see pics of your projects! I haven't included pics of mine because my decrepit old tablet doesn't do that kinda thing.

I finished my younger son's lap blanket earlier this evening, made the same way as the one I did for my older son. He was pretty happy. I would have had it done days ago, but multiple things prevented, including two days of one of the worst migraines of my life.

Now I have to decide if I'm going to start my next sewing project tomorrow or don gloves and yank poison ivy plants out of the hillside. Decisions, decisions...

Have any of you been able to learn sewing on your own? I´m trying to learn it but I don´t know where to start. I want to just buy a good sewing machine but I don´t know if it´s worth it if I have noone to really teach me how to do it.

They aren't terribly expensive, and it's not as hard as people want it to be. If you have time for trial and error. I only do things with straight lines, like baby blankets and curtains, and light mending. It's worth it!

There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube. Sewing is easy to learn. It's easier if you have someone to teach you in person, but if you don't have someone to do that, it's still not hard to learn from online videos.

I also have a book, SEW: Sew Everything Workshop, by Diana Rupp, that I have found very helpful. It has projects of varying difficulty levels to try out different skills. Last time I looked, it was out of print, unfortunately. I'm sure there are other books similar to it though.

You can do it, no problem. It looks more difficult than it is. Kinda like embroidery. I always wanted to learn to embroider, but it looked so intimidating when I had no one to teach me. I bought another Diana Rupp book, Embroider Everything Workshop, and started trying. It's so easy! My embroidery will never win awards, but I like it, and it makes children so happy.
