I am getting some Latin fever (Republica Dominicana) in particular. Went to a Dominican joint with the Nomad a few weeks back and I was loving the music. I would like to get into some more merengue if possible. For the resident Dominicans in here and Dominican afficionados, can you point me towards some more Dominican merengue?

Moma, were you at New Cafe with Nomad?

Nice...tonight's a good night to go, it will be a more intimate crowd and free to get in -- it's no more than $5 anyway if they do charge. The shit goes late, I've driven by as late as 4:30 and you will still see hotties just arriving.

You can bump anything by Omega El Fuerte, Anthony Santos is a bachatero, but he has some hot merengue tracks out like "Me Quiere La Otra" and "Me Gustas Tú".

There are Dominican sites like La Coquillita and Flow Activo, they always have all the newest bachata, merengue, dembow, etc. In fact, the DJs from Tipico, New Cafe, etc. get their mixes from those sites.

Yes, I was, I liked the music although I struck out like a mofo. Wouldn't mind touching there again though..

Question for the boricuas: Anyone been to the part of Puerto Rico where "El Talento del Barrio" starring Daddy Yankee was shot? If so, are the women that good looking in los barrios or were they all attractive actresses?

These aren't reggaetón but I wasn't sure about starting a new Spanish Afro-Caribbean music thread.

La Tromba - Calaba Calabao, track from coastal Colombia, low-key jam for a drink and some shit-talking

Julio Angel - El Salon, one of the original bachateros with some great double entendres and just a porch or hammock kinda vibe

Lebron Brothers - La Temperatura, classic salsa that you'll no doubt hear hourly if cruising through Cali

Hector Lavoe - Ah Ah Oh No, This first time I heard this jam I stopped what I was doing and just became entranced. At that moment I felt like all the years and effort I put in to learn Spanish had been just so I could hear this song and understand the joy of it. Such a playful vibe. RIP Hector!

I'm a big fan of Hector Lavoe too. I'm gonna leave a few Hector Songs here.

Juanito Alimaña (Singed with Willie Colón, another emblematic salsa singer)

El Cantante - The Singer (A history from a singer narrated from an offstage point of view)

El Rey de la Puntualidad (A humorous history of Lavoe's lateness).

These songs were made when Puerto Rico was pumping very talented Salsa singers and producers.

Hell yeah DrCotard. Lavoe and Fania All Stars were the shit. All that old-school salsa is timeless regardless of if the listener doesn't speak Spanish. One more oldie before throwing in some new stuff:

Henry Fiol - Oriente, slower salsa cut from one of the lesser-known masters

Arcangel - Hace Mucho Tiempo, sensual reggaetón good for cueing your girl that it is time to get down

Pipe Calderón and Oco Yajé - De Remate, same as above, dim the fucking lights and get it in

Systema Solar - Sin Oficio, great song to get a house party going
