Leather footwear is just too oppressive for them. It might make you look like a capitalist. You need to have everything made out of soft cotton to show how soft you are.

I've not noticed a connection between these shoes and a woman's political beliefs. To be honest, I've never met a woman who could clearly explain her political beliefs beyond which party they vote for. I've seen these shoes on many white women in the American south, many of whom are straight ticket Republican voters.

What these shoes do signal to me is that a woman has no personal style. They are objectively ugly shoes. A canvas foot-bag. I also associate them with below average intelligence. At least Uggs and those leather riding boots are comfortable, Tom's are both ugly and painful to wear.

I have a friend who posts all of her Michael Kors watches on Facebook like she's some god damn high roller wearing JLC or ALS. Never mind the shoddy gold PLATED cheap steel bracelet (stainless steel is great for watches, but this version is cheap shit) and knock off Chinese-made quartz movement. Cheap and tacky through and through...and such a representation of their owners. No substance at all.

I think it's a girl's way of signaling to you that she has her "shit together", since car ownership implies a certain level of status. As if guys give a shit whether or not she has a car (well, I don't). Another example of women not understanding what men prefer.

This year? Basic bitches were wearing canada goose jackets in Wisconsin in 2012. This is also a fashion trend that infuriates me. Canada goose jackets are actually excellent jackets and I still own one parka that I got while working a contract in the arctic. People see it in my closet and are like "oooh is that a Canada goose jacket?!" and resist saying "yes it is mother fucker, I got to work in the arctic not to prance from the coffee shop to the university library"

If some fashion trend starts where girls start to where carhart overalls I'm going to have to burn all of my work clothes.
