Men's forum; Coffee? Caffeine?

No coffee, no tea. I only take herbal tea on occasion.
I'm strictly off juice as well, very sugary. I don't work so I just let myself nap when I need to and rest. I used to drink dandelion root instead or eat dark chocolate for that buzz. I just don't like the taste of coffee and prefer coconut water or coconut milk to any energy drinks.

How do you consume caffeine? Is it really a vice?
Yes. I concluded years ago that coffee is from the devil. When I drink too much of it it kills my last braincells. Brain feels foggy, I cannot control my emotions and become irritated easily. Stay away from that. If you really cannot go without, at least don't drink energy drinks (way worse) and try high quality matcha tea. The effect of matcha tea lasts way longer and has almost no withdrawal symptoms, and only small cup is enough to get you going for the day.

A vice? Not for Orthodox, but, "Ask your priest".

I have a leisurely cup of coffee when I get up in the morning, sometimes with a little milk/cream.
At noon, in the hot summertime I have a 1/2 cup over ice sometimes with equal amount of milk. Any more than that makes me too jittery.

For nighttime, I enjoy a cup of decaf green tea, sometimes with milk and a little honey. This little "ritual" helps me relax before bed.
Milk helps mitigate the acid in it. Creamer, to me, is chemicals and sugar, not good.

I use an alternative creamer that's very tasty called Nutpods. There are other brands out there now that imitate it.

The main ingredients are water, coconut cream, and almonds. 10 calories and 1 gram of fat per tablespoon, zero carbs or sugar. I also add a little golden monkfruit, a plant-derived sugar-free alternative sweetener. For me, this is a reasonably healthy alternative to cream and sugar that tastes almost as good.

Who drinks coffee or tea? When or how? When I was younger I drank a pot of coffee every day, or Diet Coke. Now I drink one cup of coffee a day from a moka, and unsweetened black tea.

I drink 2-3 cups in the mornings. Sometimes a cup of instant in the afternoon around 2 if I start feeling it. I aid a bit of sugar and 1/2 and 1/2. Tea I usually enjoy evenings so its herbal and no caffeine. I do honestly need the kick to survive 12+ years of having to get up nights to nurse babies etc. I would figure I'm kind of addicted, but with every pregnancy I get super sick the first 20 weeks and coffee sounds awful so I don't touch the stuff and I never suffer withdrawal headaches. So I guess I'm not completely over the edge. ;)

I am still on one cup of Italian roast out of my moka with heavy cream and a tablespoon of sugar, and a quart mason jar or unsweetened black iced tea throughout the day. I lost 20 lbs this summer and gave up smoking at the same time. I've tried straightening out too many flaws in my person at one before and I'm afraid to mess with success.
Some days I skip caffeine entirely, but it really lol does not agree with me! I sleep way too late and have the strangest dreams. Like, I get trapped dreaming and can't wake up. But Penelope Cruz says she maintains her figure by sleeping too much.

Oh I know what you are talking about! I have had times where I know I am dreaming and I'm trying to force my eye lids open and they won't move. It's awful!

IMO key words here are "too much". We shouldn't fall into 'drunkenness' with coffee so to speak.

Drink in the mornings to train your sleep/wake cycle. Drink for fellowship with others. But downing 5 or 6 cups every single day all day long is ridiculous and definitely bad for most people.

Since I enjoy the whole process of selecting beans, hand grinding, and brewing coffee, I found some really good, single origin decaf and even it can get me wired now.

20 grams of beans and 200 g of water was too much, but 10g : 160g seems to be okay, although I can only drink half.

This doesn't feel like a long-term thing, just a way to slowly give it up and become less attached to mood influencing foodstuffs & drinks.

I just have trouble getting started without something warm and sweet to get me interested in the day.

It's hard.

I can pray in my room and do my piece, and find my peace, at home. I have to go really far to participate with people who complicate my peace and piece.

I did have a friend I watched soccer with in Old Fourth Ward in ATL who was darker than any of my darkest local beans, and we had the guys at Southern Poly Tech machine a sorter for the beans.

A cylinder with the base at an angle, and holes along the base that capture the smaller beans with the use of a rotary handle, like a crank at the top of an ice cream churn, to sort the beans, with a reservoir for the little ones underneath!

Thinking of you!

I went for a girls' day out with my sister/SILs/friends yesterday and drank most of a small cup of Pepsi with lunch (probably 8-12 oz), after not drinking any soda in a very long time.

YIKES.

On the rare occasions when I go against my better judgment and have an extra cup of coffee or two later in the day, it keeps me up late, usually reading or writing.

That Pepsi made me feel like I was flirting with a panic attack for a couple hours after drinking it. Had to close my eyes and focus on regulating my breathing for a bit to keep my head straight so I could keep up with the rest of the ladies' conversation.

:laughter: o_O

I used to take my granny and pick up her two older sisters to get a Coca-Cola at the Dairy Queen, and what I wouldn't give to take them one more time.

I've always had blood sugar issues and soda makes me feel like I'm going to die. Which is possible, I guess.

Coffee is my drink, though (no sugar).

I like coffee, and yes I drink one cup a day, turkish/cappuccino, but it is for sure a vice.

I’ve tried to quit/cut down several times. Something that causes such strong and heavy withdrawal symptoms can’t be good for you.

There was this doctor in the 30’s that wrote several health books and he specifically said that coffee is a no-no. He described the pain/headaches from withdrawals in detail and explained it being from our constricted blood vessels in our brains re-expanding to their normal size. Imagine.
