My experience with metalheads is this: They are the most open-minded, but at the same time most close-minded people I've ever met.
What I mean is that, since metal is not available and popular in the mainstream, one would have to be pretty open-minded to explore and find a style of music so different than what they were raised on. But some metalheads, in the same way as hipsters, are so close-minded to anything other than metal that's too mainstream. I always got ridiculed by my metal friends because I listened to punk rock, rap, and even some pop music. I even got shit for listening to Metallica because it wasn't "metal" enough.
But yet, I still listen to metal. Why? Because you don't need to be "accepted" by the community to like something. It's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Feminists preach things about culture that doesn't accept or promote female inclusion, but if they really wanted to join, why would it matter? If they really like metal music, go to concerts and enjoy yourself and you'll have a good time. I doubt any metalheads would corner a gay, woman, or black man and say that they aren't welcome

Eh, don't you guys remember all the Tipper Gore shit from the 90s? I was a kid then but I had just recently gotten into metal and punk, and some grunge, and even a little gansta rap.
For all the long hair and dyed hair and tats and Marilyn Manson Emo and goth shit. Metal is metal.
What I have always been somewhat amazed by is how smart and knowledgeable metal and punk musicians are/have been. You had guys like Dee Snider from Twisted Sister testifying on first amendment rights issues in congress. I originally liked the music, and the rebellion, and I stayed and continue to listen to those bands after all these years, because they aren't just good, and sometimes not all that good, musicians but they are intelligent people.
Go and read some of Henry Rollins essays. Or Marilyn Mansons. I look back at some of it and it all seems a bit try hard in some ways, and worse in other ways with respect to how Manson and a few others basically created all this Emo shit, but there is no doubt that these guys are smart. One of the things they love the most isn't just music but also simply pissing the establishment off.
If anything happens with this, I suspect it will actually create a resurgence in metal/rock/punk.
Serj's voice is so dynamic and chilling I think I could forgive him for anything.
