Military equipment & technology used in the war

I started this thread to discuss equipment used by both sides in the conflict - equipment sightings, losses, specifications, etc.

Ukraine for the most part seems to be fighting with Soviet era equipment +Western stingers, anti-tank weapons, and the Turkish drones. Some of it may be of 80s and earlier design but actually produced in interdependent Ukraine as they have (had) a fairly large arms industry and overall large industrial base. Interesting as well is that Ukraine , per Wikipedia, owned 250 s300 systems and nearly 100 combat aircraft , not including the Turkish drones.

Russia for its part mostly seems to have sent in older equipment so far. I believe the tanks are mainly older t72s, and the aircraft seen are mostly Soviet era planes and helicopters with some of those being in the upgraded trims. The missiles that were fired on Ukraine have included newer technology such as the Iskander and Kalibr missiles.

No, Russia has literal tens of thousands of military vehicles active and in storage.

Could just be for specific tasks, these civilian vehicles are better/easier to employ.

The dumper trucks especially, I would imagine Russia likely has military dumper trucks, but probably better to just employ/hire/requisition them from local civilian contractors/entities
This supports the idea of Russia sending in its most expendable units first

Russia obviously had tons of old USSR equipment that was providing no value, just rusting out really. Of course they would let those vehicles be missile sponges, there's no more point to them anyways. They were going to fall apart with time not much sooner, so instead of sending them to the junkyard they got massive value out of them taking over Ukraine with them while letting the enemy waste valuable rockets. And of course, this reveals the enemy position.

Using trashcans for scouting is intelligent, pretty much everything our media says about the war is false. Watch and learn real strategy from Russians.

This video goes into detail about the Russian military, especially in regards of tanks and artillery. There is a side by side comparison to U.S military structure.

Go-Pro footage of KA-52 attack helicopters in action over Ukraine. Parts of the cockpit get blurred out. I wonder what interesting tech they are keeping secret?

The crews of attack helicopter group have conducted a tactical landing operation at one of the Ukrainian military airfields. The group of Ka-52 and Mi-24 attack helicopters has destroyed the positions of MANPAD operators, air defence missile systems and armoured vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

▫️Army aviation crews had detected the camouflaged air defence systems and MANPAD positions hidden behind civilian vehicles. The pilots of the Russian Aerospace Forces have completely destroyed the air defence system of the airfield.

▫️The commander of the leading Ka-52 helicopter attacked by a MANPAD fire has covered the group by drawing the shelling to his vehicle.

▫️The leading helicopter has been shelled 18 times from the ground. The crew carried out a precautionary landing and organised a perimeter defence holding it until the arrival of the second attack group.

▫️The landing operation of the Airborne Troops units has been conducted without loss.

Apparently the footage above is from the first day, when Gostomel airport was attacked. Below is Ukrainian footage of the abandoned KA-52.

Russia has confirmed use of a hypersonic bunker-busting missile. The United States does not have a comparable weapon in this class. Also, there is no defense against this missile as of yet, meaning that any type of "nuclear defense" is useless against this weapon because of its speed. To know that we are poking a bear that has a missile that can't be stopped is insanity, suggesting that our elites are in a stage of desperation to maintain their power.

not to mention the missile itself can be armed with a nuclear warhead

this is a bit interesting - the helicopters are being towed on their own wheels

Damaged Russian helicopters from Kherson airport were sighted being towed by Russian vehicles out of the area, I can see a Havoc and an Mi-17 at least and I think a Hind gunship of some sort. So suggests the aircraft are repairable and worth taking back to Russian territory to make operational

helicopters obviously more expensive than most vehicles, but this is how a professional army should deal with broken equipment, salvage and repair, and if it can't be repaired, sources for parts

But I never knew you could tow helicopters like that tbh

I'd be curious to know the radiation level tonight near this base, a base that used to store nuclear stuff and weapons... It's Ukraine, I doubt the base had been thoroughly cleaned.

But if it had been cleaned, it was certainly a base for underground survival after a hypothetical nuclear war... Possibly, too, it was where Zelensky was hiding.
