New Zealand Covid lockdowns...

New Zealand is about to go into a week-long lockdown because of a lone case of 'delta' in the wild.
There was a palpable sense of panic in the supermarket just after the announcement was made as people stock up...everyone know it will be more than just a week...

They are trying to push everyone to get the vaccine while nuking the economy...so many businesses are going to go under if they were not already struggling.

Keen to hear other kiwis thoughts on what is going on.
 
Yes mate, this is the biggest bunch of lies ever. Last week the government was saying "if we get a case" we will go into a snap lockdown, and I thought they are going to do one and are softening us up for it so I am not surprised. I would not be surprised if this case does not even exist. My theory is that they are getting massive pushback against the vaccine and so this is to blackmail us into doing their bidding. I know a guy who works in a vaccine center and he said that they are not getting the numbers they expected. I also saw a protest against the vaccines today (I live in Tauranga) - but honestly 1 case and they shut the whole country down? Remember that 1 case in Wellington, they didn't shut the whole country then - so what is the difference? We are been lied to on a massive scale.
 
The princess is losing popularity as policy failures stack up. So hard and fast lockdown is sure to cover, especially with Afghan fiasco which has started to bite her administration as well now.
I’m stuck in QLD but monitor comments online and comms with family tell me people are upset as it was only 6 hours notice and we know it will be extended.
Seems to be the same playbook as what is happening in Australia too, hopefully will not get as mad as NSW or Victoria.
NZ has benefit of overseas experience around vaccines being useless, the gov even admitted today vaccinated still transmitting virus, they will have a hard time convincing a large chunk of population hopefully. Of course they will probably double down on the booster path and considerable amount of normies will comply.
 
I've warned my friends that when they're out exercising in the park or walking their dog, be sure to check the direction of the wind blowing the trees and if it's coming in your direction.... RUN!!!!



The PM's press conference was something to behold. So incredibly sad that it's come to this.

The "delta is raging around the world" comments by our PM and the constant emphasis on "contagion through the air" is simply whipping up fear and does not keep anyone from harm. It just creates greater anxiety and yet more division, but that's always been the plan.....I can't believe any other scenario. Ridiculous.

Exactly what I have been thinking for a while. Unfortunately NZ would be a push over, Aus not so much and it depends on Indonesia stability. If you bring this up anywhere you are thought insane. Pray it does not happen.

Look at the Princess during her presentations, all frowny and serious during the scripted bits but the toothy grins and giggles return once the questions start, she loves this, a truly sick woman.

Oh the reporters are just as bad. Even if we had great journo's in this country, I doubt they'd be welcomed into the fold. That one woman that always asks "if we are going hard enough" ?!! I'm sorry do you wan't ALL the small businesses to be destroyed completely? ..... and "just how serious IS this delta strain".... serving her the softest of pitches.

Interesting idea. NZ is China's second largest source country for foreign direct investment, first is Australia.

I do enjoy listening to Jay. Thanks for uploading that. Will give it a listen!
 
Overall feeling depressed and jaded about this whole situation. I am seeing businesses and people around me struggle. I am finding it hard to find motivation to work or do anything productive. We might as well all just sit around and let the money printer and wage subsidies flow.

The Reserve Bank announced it was keeping its interest rates the same today, very convenient timing perhaps as an increase to the official cash rate would be the beginning of the end for the housing bubble which is also gripping the country.

Police are patrolling around doing 'reassurance patrols', masks are now mandatory in supermarkets and other places. What is next?

Are we an island of cowards grinning on the sidelines as people's freedoms are one by one taken away?

When I first got into the Church, members would recommend that I read the Bible - to find answers. You could try this. And, I recommend doing something physical everyday. Healthy body; healthy mind. 1629260729680.png
 
I went to my first liturgy on Sunday, the last one before lockdown. Some coincidence huh? Never even attended a proper service up until that point.

I think we're in for a rough ride. They'll set some arbitrary target, which will do nothing because the vax is ineffective. Canada is at 80% and they're still pushing for higher compliance.
