He should've been the Blackhawks' nominee for the Masterton trophy.
The Masterton Trophy is awarded to the player “who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey”. Nominees typically have redemptive backstories, the most common being (1) recovering from major, potentially career-ending injuries or alcohol/drug abuse and (2) finding success after journeyman career status.
In this case, Kane deserved at least a nomination as he fought through trumped-up bullshit and emerged on the other side to be the best player in the NHL this season, or at least the Art Ross-iest player.
Unfortunately each team's Masterton nominee is determined by the city's chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association so Chicago's nominee is Michael Roszival who at least fits the mold - coming back from a devastating ankle break to resume a career many thought was over.
But still, would been nice to see Kane getting it for triumphing over a world where literally everyone was against him except those sane few of us who see through obvious lies, a handful of Blackhawks fans, and the ownership who also trusted and stood by their player (against withering criticism) and were vindicated in the end.
