The legislation put forward by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's right-wing government says only married couples can adopt, with some exceptions for single relatives of the child.

Same-sex marriage is illegal in Hungary, but adoption has been possible if one partner applies on their own.

One rights group called the new laws "a dark day for human rights".

What are the new rules?

Mr Orban has made sweeping changes to the Hungarian constitution since coming to power in 2010.

An amendment also approved on Tuesday defines family as "based on marriage and the parent-child relation. The mother is a woman, the father a man".

Same-sex couples will now be unable to adopt, even if one of them applies as a single person.

"The main rule is that only married couples can adopt a child, that is, a man and a woman who are married," Justice Minister Judit Varga said.

Single people will now require special approval from the government to adopt.

Parents must raise their children in a conservative spirit, the constitution now states.

"Hungary defends the right of children to identify with their birth gender and ensures their upbringing based on our nation's constitutional identity and values based on our Christian culture," it says.

The government says the changes are needed as "new ideological processes in the West" have made it necessary to "protect children against possible ideological or biological interference".

In May, Hungary's parliament approved a law that banned transgender people from changing the sex observed at birth on their official documents.

What has the reaction been?

The new rules have been strongly criticised by rights groups.

"This is a dark day for Hungary's LGBTQ community and a dark day for human rights," said David Vig, director of Amnesty Hungary.

Masen Davis, Executive Director at Transgender Europe, said: "We are deeply concerned for the health and safety of trans children and adults in Hungary in such a hostile climate."

Last week EU leaders reached a compromise with Hungary and Poland to avoid the two nations vetoing the EU's long-term budget over what they see as an attempt to impose liberal values on them.

I am Hungarian, and I support Orban for the only reason he is our best choice. But they are very corrupt, and stolen untold amount of money. What a lot of Hungarians fail to understand, if they voted for the other side, the stealing would still happen, but they would also sell the country to Brussel , and we would be up to our eyeballs with "migrants".

I just can not understand how people can not see what is happening... I have no faith in any politicians, or party on this world. We have to choose between two evils always.

Not justfying theft but I think there're light years of difference between stealing money and abandoning basic morality (and being "proud" of it). That being said, we should never put our faith in politicians and "democracy" before God as the boomers did.

Greetings, how reverend is Catholicism in Hungary currently and did you notice an increase in any mass/church attendance this past Christmas ?

I'm curious of the religious make of Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Protestantism, secularism in Hungary.
My best friend's family growing up was half Hungarian/Serbian and both his mother (hungarian) and father (serb) were both atheist socialist.
The other Hungarian I knew from university was a tractor who despised Europeans and western values.

Thought I would ask a real Hungarian who has boots on the ground. I'm aware Hungary has a glorious Catholic history and I hope the faith is still strong in 2020.

Merry Christmas

New news on this front: A law is planned to ban homosexual propaganda to children:

  • Ban promoting and displaying homosexuality and trans- to children below 18
  • presentation of these topics is banned in schools
  • sexual education and drog prevention education is only allowed to be lectured by registered organizations (and it is suspected to outlaw all such activity of NGO-s) and the homo- topics are outlawed
  • advertisment that displays sexuality without purpose or displays homo- or trans- at all is all banned for age below 18.
Orbán does a trick again: this will all be voted as a single law that contains other points as well. The law is originally to tighten pedophile rules. It is called the pedophile law. So anyone who does not support this new law will be mocked as pro-pedophile.

The leftist (and globalist) opposition parties say they will vote no.

The party "Jobbik" that was radical national opposition (but later betrayed its voters and joined the leftist opposition) which now barely have any identity is planning to vote yes.

The fraction of Orbán has enough votes in itself to vote this law so the vote of the others may be symbolic. (Or maybe they need a few support voted from Jobbik that they will get.)

This seems to become a law because there are going to be enough vote to support it if they don't lie about their intentions.

Link to Hungarian article:

It is interesting that apart from Covid issues Orbán still looks like he is based.

Western cuckleaders are absolutely seething over Hungary's new pro-family law

Several EU lapdogs have stated that if Hungary goes ahead with this its EU membership might be on the line. I hope they keep their word as it would be another blow to this devilish institute, although I fear it's empty bluster.

Interestingly, 10 of the 27 EU member-states DID NOT sign on with the denunciation of the bill (you can probably guess the 10). None of the V4 signed on. I don't see it happening, but I would love to see a breakout and a formal, mini-federation of Hungary, Slovakia, CR, and Poland form.

Also, the irony is that the EU cucks are placing the "blame" SOLEY on Orbán/FIDESZ...

The vote was 157 to 1!! (with about 40 abstaining)!

Apparently, Austria cucked

Following behind-the-scenes consultations, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Spain, Sweden and Latvia endorsed the Benelux text. Italy waited until the end of the meeting to add its name to the list, while Austria and Greece did so the following day.

Isn't it amazing that you're allowed to stay in the EU if you fudge your economic reports to join the Eurozone (Greece), if you're basically bankrupt (Greece, Italy, Portugal, Irland etc.), if you don't protect your outer border against the shithole invaders (Greece, Italy), if you pursue your selfish foreign policy (Germany and Russian gas) over the interests of other states (Eastern Europe) although there's such a thing as the Common Foreign Policy?

But the minute someone isn't 100% for man-to-man anal - it's GTFO!

Although there are reports of the rainbow flag flying at the Budapest City Hall and an overall increasing acceptance of LGTBQ within Budapest city. I believe the city government is at odds with the state government but am not intimately familiar with Hungarian politics.

Gonna be playing devils advocate here. Love the east. East doesnt love me back.

here s the link

Jozsef Szajer, Orbans right hand, caught with drugs at a gay gangbang party. Not too long ago. Conservative, married with kid, anti gay marriage, "founding member of Fidesz and an ally of Orban for more than 30 years". Likes to suckle on the big D and smoke meth. Yeah baby way to go. We need more conservatives like this!
Question is why would Orban pick someone like that? Bad judge of character or just a modern conservative? Caffeine free coffee, alcohol free beer, plant based burgers, pro choice Catholics ....the definition of modernity.

Let's see Orban tackle Gender Equality and Feminism.

Hungary is actually very pro-feminist in the sense they believe women and men should have the same opportunities for things like work (there are Pew polls out there to back it up). They're an outlier among Central and Eastern Europe in the same way Czechia is with atheism.

Feminism is inherently anti-christ by promoting child murder and rebellion against God given sex roles and authority.

Destroying the family and other ills they perpetrated in the west like promoting divorce.

Recommend you read this blog from its earliest posts:

To see how it is fundamentally incompatible with Christianity.

I hope you're joking, I joined this forum almost a decade ago because it was anti-feminism lol. No convincing needed.

I'm pointing out that Hungary is not the right wing paradise it's made out to be among the American right. Divorce and abortion rates are sky high, low church attendance, lots of baggage from communist times. Birth rates are still low but increasing. Many eastern cities like Miskolc are overrun with gypsies (8% of the population is a VERY low estimate). As another poster mentioned, high levels of corruption and opportunism by politicians (Jobbik is a textbook example of having no principles).

Orbán is doing a ton of great things and moving the country forward culturally/morally but perception here isn't always reality over there. It's not a Christian theocratic paradise.
