Praying the Rosary

Are you praying the Rosary? Has it borne fruit in your life? What do you think about it?

The prayers of the rosary: https://www.prayinglatin.com/prayers-of-the-rosary-in-latin/
Amazing book on why and how to pray the rosary: https://sensusfidelium.us/meditatio...the-secret-of-the-rosary-st-louis-de-monfort/

Traditionally, "one rosary" is meant to be all 15 decades in a single day. This is pretty tough and I've accomplished it rarely, but it's at least acknowledging the ideal and aiming for it despite our weaknesses.

Note, there is a previous thread on "Rosaries", but it is mostly concerned with the purchase of the physical item, not the prayer life itself: https://www.rooshvforum.com/threads/rosaries.38082/

Yeah, I was happy to find them. There are many rosary videos, but most are unpleasant to be blunt. It's nice, when praying, to have serene, inspiring video and audio to follow along with, if you're going to do it at all. I found them when I was originally looking for old videos of Mother Angelica - I remember flipping through the channels as a kid and landing on EWTN during rosary hour and being strangely transfixed by the whole thing, as someone from a nominally Catholic but very much unobservant family. Instead, I landed on those videos.

Thanks for this link! I was using a small booklet previously, this website has some great meditations on each mystery. This is definitely a lot better.

And yes, it has been helpful. Its very calming and gives you peace. Saying the whole thing out loud really helps you with your enunciation as well, so it has some positive effects outside of your spiritual or emotional state.

If you haven’t yet read St. Louis de Montfort’s CLASSIC on the Rosary, The Secret of the Rosary, do so!
It is one of the greatest spiritual books ever written; it really inflames the reader with a great love of God and of our Blessed Mother; the stories in the book are there to illustrate or emphasize a lesson; but are not essential to the doctrine that he teaches. His Practice of True Devotion is also very good; as well as his Friends of the Cross; Love of Divine Wisdom; they are all very solid. I recommend all of them.

These are a few of St. Louis de Montfort’s inspiring quotes on the Holy Rosary:

-“The word rosary means “Crown of Roses,” that is to say that every time people say the Rosary devoutly they place a crown of one hundred and fifty-three white roses and sixteen red roses upon the head of Jesus and Mary. Being heavenly flowers these roses will never fade or lose their exquisite beauty.”

-“Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil as sorcerers do who practice black magic, and even if you are a heretic as obstinate as a devil, sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and will save your soul, if—and mark well what I say—if you say the Holy Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for your sins.”

-“When the Holy Rosary is said well, it gives Jesus and Mary more glory and is more meritorious than any other prayer.”

-“Put you on the armor of God.” So arm yourselves with the arms of God—-with the Holy Rosary—-and you will crush the devil’s head and you will stand firm in the face of all his temptations.

-“For never will anyone who says his Rosary every day become a formal heretic or be led astray by the devil. This is a statement which I would sign with my blood.”

-“The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of devotions and the most important one.”

-“It is scarcely possible for me to put into words how our Lady esteems the Rosary and how she prefers it to all other devotions. Nor can I sufficiently express how wonderfully she rewards those who work to make known the devotion, to establish it and spread it nor, on the other hand, how strictly she punishes those who work against it.”

-“To say the Holy Rosary to advantage one must be in a state of grace or at the very least be fully determined to give up mortal sin.”

-“I would like to add that the Rosary ought to be said reverently, that is to say, it ought to be said as much as possible, kneeling, with hands joined, clasping the rosary. However, if you are ill, you can, of course, say it in bed; or if one is travelling it can be said while walking; if, on account of some infirmity, you cannot kneel you can say it standing or sitting. You can even say it while working if your duties do not allow you to leave your job, for work with one’s hands is not always incompatible with vocal prayer.”

-“Blessed is the Rosary which gives us this science and knowledge of our Blessed Lord through our meditations on His life, death, passion and glory.”

-“The Rosary is the most powerful weapon to touch the Heart of Jesus, Our Redeemer, who loves His Mother.”

-“If then we are establishing sound devotion to our Blessed Lady, it is only in order to establish devotion to our Lord more perfectly, by providing a smooth but certain way of reaching Jesus Christ.”

-“One day Our Lord said to Blessed Alan: “If only these poor wretched sinners would say My Rosary, they would share in the merits of My passion and I would be their Advocate and would appease My Father’s Justice.”

-“By this devotion we give to Jesus all we can possibly give him, and in the most perfect manner, that is, through Mary’s hands.”

-“Your closest enemies will attack you all the more cruelly because they are within you. I mean the powers of your soul and your bodily senses, the distractions of the mind, distress and uncertainty of the will, dryness of the heart, exhaustion and illness of the body—all that will combine with the evil spirits who say to you, ‘Give up your rosary, that is what is giving you such a headache; give up your rosary, there is no obligation under pain of sin; at least say only a part of it; the difficulties you are having are a sign that God does not want you to say it; you can say it tomorrow when you are more in the mood.’ And so on.”

-“Ever since the devil was crushed by the humility and passion of Jesus Christ he has been very nearly unable to attack a soul that is armed with meditation on the mysteries of Our Lord’s life, and, if he does trouble such a soul, he is sure to be shamefully defeated.” (Cardinal Hughes)

-“These crowns are not for the timid who are afraid of this world’s taunts and threats, neither are they for the lazy and indolent who only say their rosary carelessly, or hastily, just for the sake of getting it over with. . . . These crowns are not for cowards who lose heart and lay down their arms as soon as they see hell is let loose against their rosary.”

-“To imitate Jesus more perfectly in his agony you could say your rosary more slowly sometimes when you find it particularly hard to say, so that what was said of our Lord when he was in his agony of prayer may be said of you: he prayed all the longer.”

-“It is not so much the length of a prayer as the fervor with which it is said which pleases God and touches his heart. A single Hail Mary said properly is worth more than a hundred and fifty said badly.”

-“The Angelic Salutation . . . is the new hymn of the law of grace, the joy of angels and men, and the hymn which terrifies devils and puts them to shame.”

-“What a wonderful thing to have Jesus Christ in our midst! And all we have to do to have him with us is to come together to say the rosary. That is why the first Christians met so often to pray together, in spite of the persecutions of the emperors, who had forbidden them to assemble. They preferred to risk death rather than to miss their gatherings where our Lord was present.”

-“Recite your Rosary with faith, with humility, with confidence, and with perseverance.”

-“Finally, my dear brothers and sisters, the daily Rosary has so many enemies that I look upon the grace of persevering in it until death as one of the greatest favors God can give us.”

-“Only he who perseveres in asking, seeking, and knocking, will receive, will find and will enter. It is not enough to ask God for certain graces for a month, a year, ten or twenty years; we must never tire of asking.”

-“If by chance your conscience is burdened with sin, take your Rosary and say at least part of it, honoring some of the Mysteries of the life, passion or glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and be sure that, while you are meditating upon these Mysteries and honoring them He will show His sacred wounds to His Father in Heaven. He will plead for you and will obtain for you contrition and the forgiveness of your sins.”

“Pray the Rosary with Fr. Peyton” Many people use these videos and have found saying their Rosaries along with the videos is very helpful and enhances their prayer, especially with Meditating on the Mysteries and omitting distractions:

I love the Rosary. It's the backbone of my spirituality.

I firmly believe Our Lady helped bring me back to the faith and interceded for me countless times due to the many Rosaries I said as a kid. It's the spiritual weapon of our times.

I made praying the Rosary every day one of my Lenten practices and have of course continued doing so. I highly recommend getting a Scriptural Rosary book to pray along with. The online resources are great, but there's something to be said about having a tangible book, especially if it's of fine quality. It helps with meditating on the Mysteries and helps you learn the details of the Scripture tied to them. I recommend the Angelus Press version, but I'm sure there are many other great options.

It has four English forms of praying each set of Mysteries, as well as Latin and Gregorian Chant. It also has English and Latin text for all the prayers and beautiful artwork to help with meditation. It's hard cover, sewn binding and easily folds flat after it's broken in to free up your hands for prayer.

I’m in, so long as we are JUST doing the real Rosary 15 mysteries given to Bl. Alan and St. Dominic by Mary herself and not JP Deuce’s Luciferian ones.

I'm glas that my wife has brought me closer to this wonderful practice. While I am still a bit lazy about praying the rosary regularly, it's something that I should definitely be doing.

My mother in law always says that praying the rosary saved her after she was diagnosed with an incurable disease and doctors gave up on her.

Well, I am more a Liturgy of the Hours type of guy. I try to pray that consistently every morning, midday and evening. During work hours, when I tend to skip/forget the midday prayer (mea culpa), I pray the Angelus instead. I reserve the Rosary mostly for when taking longer walks (and make sure I always carry one around with me), or when in company with other Catholics, especially during feast days.

Praying the rosary is powerful and so far it's been the most fruitful prayer in my life, but in my case it's also a chore. I'm a bit jealous of people for whom it comes easy. Maybe the struggle I have is the whole point of it ?

The rosary is one of the most powerful prayers for the christian man today, since you are meditating the birth, life, passion death and resurection of our lord Jesus Christ.

It's only when you focus on the things that are above you, when you are more effective with the things of the earth here below.

Look how the lives of these men were transfigured once they started praying all the four misteries:

Also if you want to take a peek about what essentially the rosary is, listen to what Bishop Barron says about the matter (I also recommend doing a rosary with one of his rosary videos on YT):

In my case I did the four mysteries everyday for a full week, I experienced an increase in mercy towards the people that is around me, I was more aware of the graces of God in my life ( I started to feel joy even in the little things) and I also started to see connections from many verses in the bible with the passion of the Christ.

I don't know if my orthobros do the rosary, but as someone who does the Jesus Prayer everyday (especially when I'm being tempted), I can totally recommend it to you

Yes, the struggle is part of the whole point of it.

I highly encourage you to read St. Louis de Monfort’s The Secret of the Rosary if you haven’t already.
