The desktop app for telegram is really good. Way better than WhatsApp’s. Strongly recommend.

so you can ignore the mostly bad advice in this thread and just use a dumb phone with the desktop version of whichever group chat your family uses.

Haha, well yesterday I got a Tello plan to use with my Nokia. You guys convinced me! Now my husband is actually excited that we'll only be paying $7 a month, even if he thought the idea was a little radical. Men are always motivated by money

Mine would go almost a week on a charge. Also if you drop it, it just bounces around, it doesn't shatter and stop working

I had a Nokia 1100 for most of the 2000's that I loved. It was so simple to use and pretty much indestructible. The one I have now is the closest to it I could find. It's more of a nostalgia thing for me than anything else.

My sister, who's in her 20's, got a similar phone and it very happy with it. She's also sick of the corrupting influence of the smart phone.

I don't know about phones, but I can recommend the app Signal, for private secure texting.
