Proliferation of Female Sportscasters

I separate sideline reporters from sports 'personalities'. All sports talking heads are worthless. Their job is to make noise. In this regard, women aren't worse than men because even male sports talk personalities don't contribute anything meaningful. Chris Berman's commentary includes equal amounts of words and sound effects:

Mike Ditka is senile:

Michael Irvin appears to be under the influence of something:

Basically, this is the level of discourse on these shows:

A typical woman doesn't provide anything more than T&A on these shows, but it's not like her counterparts are saying anything of depth.

However, female sideline reporters are noticeably worse than their male counterparts. They are bad because they can't help but inject themselves into every aspect of the broadcast, especially the interview. Look at Erin Andrews today:

She draws back the microphone from Kaepernick so that she can shout.

This. Don't read into it any more than necessary. There's no sinister plot to bring the triumph of women at the expense of men. They're there to give the mostly male audiences some reason not to change the channel.

The worst is that frumpy 1%'er Andrea Mitchell. I confuse her for Barbara Walters because both are cocky broads 40 years past the wall.

But let's not forget that from the sidelines...in time... They get put in a position where you can't lock them away from more responsibilities such as Suzy Kolber (figured out her name), and Rachel Nichols. Both kinda outgrew the sideline thing and it became obvious they could hack on a tiny bit more so of course they leap and bound over to having their own shows versus a natural promotion to hosting SC or a part in another show as a added job title.

This. No one takes them seriously in my country, they are there just to show cleavage and have girly reactions to testosterone battles in the game.

This is why I love this forum, great thread, great thoughts.

#1) I am sick of having to listen to them and watch them try to pretend to be cute for the camera, and I am sick of the typical sexually starved American man getting excited about them. Most of them at best are 7/10, with a few true hotties, who are getting close to the wall and have nothing to add or offer. They didn't play football, they probably didn't even grow up really watching football, but now I am supposed to pretend their opinion is worth my free time and millions a year in salary. Get out of here.

#2) If I want to look at women, I will surf for porn. If I want to watch sports, then I want to see great athletes go to battle and see memories be made. I don't need some vastly over confident female sideline reporter trying to pretend she is part of it. Shut up and go away.

#3) There was a great post here about it might be best to watch as little sports as possible. I agree with this. I think sports are a great outlet for men, but at the same time it should be in moderation. We are being inundated with 24/7 sports networks and it is really too much. There are so many better things for a man to be doing and learning. But I will go a step further and say this is true for all TV, not just sports. I go to bed super early in the morning and get up and work two jobs. It has been great for me. Rather than watching TV and wishing my life was like the fake commercials put on air or the unreal TV shows, I instead am either asleep or at work. And I can keep track of all the scores and highlights in a few minutes on my phone.

All great points, but why are we creating a market for professional sports anyway?

I haven't heard the feminists bitching about "men who play sports for a living" yet, so I can only assume that they see nothing wrong with pro sports.

The obvious response from red-pill men should be to question the value of watching other men have a good time getting paid to play games for our entertainment.

Wouldn't it be more manly to use that time to actually play a sport ourselves or even put that time into make some money?

I agree, it would be more useful to put our time into something else as Red Pill males.

The only reason I will watch a game, if it is one a I am really looking forward to, and it fits into my already busy schedule. Which means Saturday or Sunday afternoon, after I have all my chores/errands finished and I want some type of escape before heading back into work again.

I think most men create a market for professional sports because their real life is so miserable it is an escape. Much like video games or other online games/distractions. They know something is wrong, but can't put their finger on it, so they escape it in their free time. The red pill males are lucky to know something is wrong, but they also know what that something is and how to fix it.

Am I the only one that hates sportscasters in general?

I don't want to hear their voice. I just want to watch the game with the gentle "Roar" of the crowd in the background. I would enjoy football so much more if I didn't hear any interview this random innane comment that. Just STFU and let me watch the game.

Throw up some graphics too. ESPN would have a shit show if someone did that.

I have the same reaction to radio DJs. Someone just needs to tell them to STFU and play the damn music!

Local announcers that follow their team all season can definitely enhance the experience, and sometimes only a real good talking head will do (ie, Marv Albert for any NBA playoff game). But I do agree that most of the time they're inane and asinine in what they say, ie yesterday when Phil Simms argued that the Chargers were right in going for it on 4th down and then immediately arguing for punting after the delay of game, or how about the entire Fox broadcast which Joe Buck spent messily fellating Aaron Rodgers.

Compare:

Andrews is shocked after 10 seconds of Sherman's rant. There's a noticeable pause before she asks her second question. Sal Paolantonio signs off with a smirk on his face after feeding Bart Scott's rant. I can't imagine how much better the Sherman interview would have been if anybody but Andrews had conducted it.

Another reason I mainly watch Boxing nowadays. The only females you see are the ones walking around the ring in between rounds and the Tecate girls at televised weigh-ins. The commentary and play-by-play is at least solid, if not great, and the best part is that it's such an anti-SWPL sport that you don't see calls for a "women's opinion" and other garbage.

There's nothing unmanly about indulging in entertainment, so long as it's in moderation. Additionally, watching sports can also be inspirational, social, and educational. If a man has better things to do with his time he shouldn't be faulted for that, but there's nothing inherently wrong with watching sports.

A related comment I made at Return of Kings article on this subject:

What you describe is more an lack of discipline and moderation than a problem inherent with watching sports. What you describe is primarily socializing, drinking, and satisfying addictive fantasy football cravings.

Watching sports can be inspirational and motivational as well as entertaining. Yes, you watch other men achieve, but then you absorb a little bit of that competitive spirit you saw and use it to better your own life. This is especially true if you like spending time in the gym doing weight training and high-intensity intervals.

Don't spend 8 hours in a bar. Don't waste an entire weekend doing one basic, unproductive activity. But don't beat yourself up about spending a few hours per week relaxing with friends over a football game.

Playing a pickup game of basketball with your friends is entertainment. Watching someone else have fun on TV is just lazy.

Watching intense competition of the most athletic, skilled athletes in the world is entertainment to me.

If you don't have time for it because you're training, reading, studying, working, or whatever-- that's great. But it's pretty ridiculous to think that no one ever has any time to spend watching television, especially socially. If you watch one 3-hour game per week, that's 2.6% of your waking hours (16 hour day) during the season spent "being lazy". If you only watch one sport, average that out to a whole year the number drops to <1%. If you can't do something productive with your life with the 99% of the time you aren't spending watching sports, there's a problem somewhere and enjoying sports on TV has nothing to do with it.
