Well, here's an update from my town Hingham, MA. Hingham is a quaint little New England town south of Boston. Up until around 2020, the town was conservative, or at least it appeared to be so. Then George Floyd happened and it radically changed. "BLM" and YIMBY signs as well as pride flags started popping up. The town turned hard left. As you know the schools are "observing" "pride" month with homosexual paraphernalia. Thank you to all those that helped by calling my officials. We will continue to fight.

Hingham is an otherwise rich snobby town. Earlier this week one of our convenience stores was held up by gunpoint. Surrounding this establishment are a variety of multi-million dollar colonial homes. It was considered very safe - like don't lock your doors. But that's changed. Now we have armed robberies.

This is what you get for all of the virtue signaling. YIMBY indeed.

San Francisco supervisor Hillary Ronen begs for more police in her district after voting to defund in 2020​

A San Francisco district supervisor is calling for more policing in the crime-ridden city – despite advocating to defund the police in 2020.

Hillary Ronen, a Democrat, represents District 9 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. During a Budget and Appropriations Committee meeting on Wednesday, she made an impassioned plea to add more officers to the Mission District, which she represents.

Ronen was attacking San Francisco's police chief for spending a large amount of overtime on an anti-retail theft program instead of prioritizing police presence in her district.

"I've been begging this department to give the Mission what it deserves in terms of police presence all year long," Ronen said. "And I have been told time and time and time and time again there are no officers that we can send to Mission."

"It hurts. And I feel betrayed by the department. I feel betrayed by the mayor. I feel betrayed by the priorities of the city," the Democratic politician added.

The speech contradicts her stance on policing in 2020. After the George Floyd protests, Ronen tweeted that she believed "strongly" that San Francisco's police force needed to be reduced.

"I want to make it clear that I believe strongly in defunding the police and reducing the number of officers on our force," Ronen wrote. "For decades we’ve had an imbalance in our city’s budget, with hundreds of millions of dollars going to SFPD to have them do work they are not qualified to do."

In 2020, Mayor London Breed redirected $120 million from law enforcement to fund other city initiatives. Crime in San Francisco continued to worsen, with homicides increasing by 20% in 2020 compared to 2019. Homicides also increased 17% in 2021 compared to the previous year.

By December 2021, Breed made an emergency request to the Board of Supervisors to add more funds to the city's police department.

The San Francisco Police Department has struggled with lack of staffing the past few years. In February, officers responded to a burglary more than 15 hours after the 911 call was made.

"While the SFPD is short-staffed and our response times have been negatively impacted as a result, a response time of over 12 hours for a call of this nature falls far short of the department’s and the public’s expectations," Officer Robert Rueca said.

Memphis basketball player Jamirah Shutes charged with assault after sucker punch​

Memphis women’s basketball star Jamirah Shutes has been charged with assault after appearing to punch a Bowling Green player in a handshake line following a game between the teams Thursday night.

Bowling Green released a statement to Ohio CBS affiliate WTOL saying that Shutes, a senior guard who made second-team All-AAC this season, has been criminally charged.

In the handshake line after the Falcons defeated Memphis 73-60 in the NIT’s Round of 16 on Thursday night in Bowling Green, Ohio, Shutes stopped to exchange words with Bowling Green guard Elissa Brett and appeared to throw a punch.

“Following Thursday’s unwarranted physical incident after the WNIT home game, the Bowling Green State University Police Department has charged a member of the Memphis Women’s Basketball team with assault,” the university’s statement said.

“Additionally, BGSU Athletics is conducting its own review. Violence is never acceptable and our priority remains the health, safety and support of our student-athlete, who is recovering and doing well.

“This is an active investigation in conjunction with the City of Bowling Green Prosecutor, and no further comment is available at this time.”

It is unclear what sparked the incident, though The Commercial Appeal of Memphis reported that Shutes was elbowed in the face late in the first half.

Memphis’ athletics department released a statement about the handshake-line incident on Friday.

“The incident that occurred following Thursday’s women’s basketball game was extremely unfortunate and certainly not consistent with, or representative of, our expectations for our programs and student-athletes,” the statement said.

“Because the incident occurred after the game, jurisdiction falls in the hands of local authorities, and we are cooperating fully with their process.

“To be respectful of that process, we will not comment further until it is complete.”

At 15.3 points per game this season, Shutes was Memphis’ leading scorer.

Shutes, a senior guard on Memphis, made second-team All-AAC this season.

I recently stumbled upon this road in my city. It's lined on both sides with dilapidated old RVs and campers, trash and peoples things piled up everywhere. You cant tell from the picture but it continues on like this for at least a mile, lined non stop with old vehicles, trailers and rvs that look like they haven't moved in a long time. Not sure what's going on here, but it appears that people are living out of these. I've seen the temporary homeless encampments that get shuffled around, but never something like this. It was pretty shocking driving along this road. It's a good symbol of the societal decay in this country. There's a lot of folks out there who are suffering.

I know this is predominantly a USA thread but UK town and cities are seeing an ever increasing amount of foreign born/legacy immigrant rapists, gangs, murderers and corrupt cops and doctors.

The deep rooted nature of all of these problems is being covered up obviously. Whenever I see a violent crime in the media here I am never surprised to see a foreigner doing it.

As of now they are importing so many migrants here via the EU immigration centres set up a few years ago they are now transforming entire RAF bases and ex-prisons to accommodate them. I knew they'd do this based on the numbers and willingness of the government to get them here. They are spreading them out so as not to cause too many obvious problems until its too late.

I can only imagine the crime rates in the coming years.

Yup, just a low resistance piece of metal to divert the change back to ground.

While that's a pretty neat video, sky scrapers getting struck isn't at all uncommon. If the right conditions exist (static electrical difference aka a voltage) then as soon as that voltage hits a point that it can jump the air gap (~50,000 V per inch of air) it will. Just like your finger will discharge to metal after scuffing your feet on carpet, it will jump as soon as your finger gets close enough. Conversely if the charge built up more and more and more, eventually it gets to a point when it can jump the gap.

Since sky scrapers are the closest grounded thing to thunder clouds for a good wide area, that will be where that static charge jumps to.

A lightning rod or lightning conductor (British English) is a metal rod mounted on a structure and intended to protect the structure from a lightning strike. If lightning hits the structure, it will preferentially strike the rod and be conducted to ground through a wire, instead of passing through the structure, where it could start a fire or cause electrocution.
