We've been bleeding senior members heavily this year.

Just because people spend a few weeks off or not contributing much doesn't mean they are "gone". I'm actually more suspicious of people that don't take a break at all to recycle themselves.

There is life out there, ya know?

When they say they're not going to login to the forum again, it means they're gone. G is a different case though.

I think he's butt hurt over his online herpes outbreak.

Not meaning to be a prick, but when you guys quote a post like that you don't have to bring the picture together with it, it messes up the thread.

I didn't even realize he wasn't posting. I realize that people come and go here, but it's been a lot of quality guys in a very short time frame.

What happened to the once a month registration?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing after noticing an influx of members with single-digit post counts more than a week after "1st of the month" registration. Logged out to confirm that registration any day is now possible.

If I remember correctly, the "1st of the month" registration rule came before Tuthmosis was made moderator. Perhaps Roosh feels the forum is easier to patrol with Tuthmosis, and hence is comfortable keeping registration open.

I was all for removing it at first.

I still agree with the decision in part, however with Rep system gone the only quick indicator of someones worth on the forum is post count (which is continued with ranking of stars and rank name).

I see a lot of people posting shit just to get that postcount up. I'd rather bring back ranking and marginalize post count. Put the focus on truly contributing rather than serving up shit in order to be perceived as a better contributor.

There are guys on here with sky high post counts who contribute precious little to an existing topic or raise mediocre ones (that have often been raised in another topic that could be expanded rather than detracting from it with a rival thread). There are also guys here with low post counts but are consistently creating great, original topics and contributing well to existing topics. The post count emphasis rewards the former and ignores the latter.

Some raised the issue of people creating fake data sheets to get rep - did we not have a newbie this month, when there was no rep system in place as an incentive, who did just that and got banned?

Egos will always be a problem regardless of the system in place. So may as well have that system be one that rewards quality rather than quantity. Reward the value, reduce the clutter.

One thing anyone can do to help "sort" the threads is to use the star rating on each thread.

If the "Hall of Fame" idea is a no go, ranking the threads as you truly see them would be beneficial, as you can sort threads by number of stars by simply clicking the rating above that column.

Dash got banned, MiXX left, G went on hiatus again and now HC's gone too. That's what I'm concerned about more than anything.

Where do you get the idea that HC is gone? It shows his last login was yesterday and he's posted in the last several days.

Sorry didn't see this. HC told me that he is leaving and does not intend to login to the Forum again.

Okay, well I didn't know that. Maybe he has checked out. I know he was concerned about privacy and such and then when someone ratted him out on that couchsurf girl maybe he just had enough at that point. Damn, that's too bad, he was a great contributor and a cool, helpful guy. I'd asked him a few weeks ago for recommendations of spots in SF and he got right back to me pretty quick and all. Good cat.

Solid point Hotwheels, perhaps we can all make a conscious effort to vote for the threads (particularly ones we get value from). I know I always forget - having to scroll all the way back up tot he top to see the stars.
Perhaps Roosh we can get the rating stars repeated at the end of the thread next to the 'new reply' button just like it is at the top?

I think he's butt hurt over his online herpes outbreak.

I'm still here but i feel less incentive to post lately for several reasons :
- Some great contributors have left or have taken long breaks.
- The game and travel forum are overrun by noobs with borderline trollish questions where i don't feel like investing my time answering them. (am i the only one seeing a major change here ?. There's little difference between the newbie and the game forum nowadays.

- some lame jokes
- busy with my book

About the rep system: I miss the system. Its still a good way to find out who the quality posters are, postcount doesn't mean a thing since some posters barely post anything in the game and travel forum and get high post counts for advice on fitness, finance, funny pictures and/or anti masturbation threads. Those posters will be mistaken for good contributers/game experts later since most people think a high post count equals game knowledge.

The rep system has some flaws though.
This is part of what i said in the other rep point thread and i haven't changed my mind on it: The first 6 points were made by Gmanifesto and all of those should be avoided should the rep system return.

1. Guys excoriating other guys for not having sufficient rep to be making certain claims.

2. Guys openly and repeatedly complaining that, despite all their contributions, they aren't getting enough rep. They would then get a couple of courtesy points.

3. Guys giving rep just for the sake of rounding off a member to the next major digit (saw three examples of this).

4. Guys publicly asking for rep in exchange for information. "If you give me a rep point, I'll tell you."

5. I had a guy PM-ing me immediately after giving me a rep point asking me to give him one in return.

6. Guys using rep as a way to retort to disagreements. "When you have this much rep you can X."

My opinion :
Well, I think the basic system was really good, a guy should be recognized for dropping good knowledge. It always gave me lots of incentive to drop datasheets. Hell, i stayed in 3rd world shithole countries longer than necessarily just to check out some extra places and make a good datasheet. I was exited to drop datasheets on unknown places like Paraguay, Guyana and Suriname. Not only to get my hard work recognized but also because i like to share my knowledge to others. Others who i owe flags and bangs to.

I also saw the flaws in the system and openly brought them out, why ?
because i think its unfair to others. Sorry, but this is a forum for traveling playas. We want to get laid and share our knowledge. Getting points for posting a thread on (online) business or a new way to flush a turd and getting points for it. I think not ! ( im making this subjects up not to insult anyone) Maybe rep points should only be handed out in the game and travel section since this is the main part of the forum.
I got a rep point from someone for saying something funny about a toilet (!?)
I've been watching closely lately to gained points from most user here. Who gave what to who and why.
I have seen guys with 4 points in a row from the same noob with all the same message. I have suspicions about people repping themselves through double accounts. I have seen noobs handing out rep points like candy.

On the other hand points are judged by the eye of the beholder, i got points saying things like great contributor, awesome guy, dropping some serious knowledge etc etc , these are not linked to posts or datasheets. I'm not a modest guy, i feel proud when i get recognized for improving my life and spending money, time and sometimes my safety to make good posts here. Proud eventhough i have never met 99.9 % of guys here and one can reason that its just a bunch of dudes on the internet but its an unique community.

What should be changed over time about the rep points ?

I think that the old system of repping should return AND that a rep moderator should come in handy. A mod who can take away rep points like doubles, points given without any good reason, bullshit points and can also question a poster why he have gave some one a rep point ( discretly by PM) The last thing should be keeping the load of rep points given by noobs for little reason away. Personally i don't value a rep point given by an newbie. I rather have 5 rep points from respected members here than 10 from noobs.
The mod should be someone with true integrity.

Also repping one datasheet 10 times should be avoided, sometimes i wanted to give a rep point but saw that others had given a shitload of points already. maybe 3 should be maximum, should one loose points this way, well so be it ,at least the points left are true points.

That's all folks

I think now with the lack of reputation system we are more free to speak our minds out.We are not so concerned if our opinions are going to be approved by the majority.

I agree with Neil, it sounds silly that we find little points a motivation to post info about stuff other's find useful, but just cause it sounds silly doesn't mean it isn't true. I only posted one good datasheet, the one on Buenos Aires, and I dragged my feet cause I was lazy about putting it up and getting the rep points probably pushed me over the edge and got me to do it. Sounds retarded, but its true.

We're human. We respond to incentives. Let's make that incentive a mark in a forum Hall of Fame and not some green number underneath our names.

You guys just don't want to have the reputations any more because you know I'll get the most points.

I agree with this, although I realise I'm still new and so take my opinion for what it is worth.

A Hall of Fame actually solves all the problems;

- People get recognition for their work.
- Good posts are incentivised and 'findable'
- No arguing over whether you get enough rep or not; if it is hall of fame worthy, then that is where it goes.
- no arguing about it in a 'you've got low rep' kind of way.
- If you want to know how 'valuable a poster' is, then look and see if they are a hall of famer.

etc

I liked the rep system with a few caveats.

Hall of fame sounds like a nice alternative. One or the other sounds good to me.

There should probably also be a limit to how many points you can dish out. Like one rep point can be given per week or month because some guys will rep about any piece of shit that comes out of someone's mouth whereas others are careful in what they laud.

I think being able to rate individual posts might have caused too much "inflation" in the rep system. I think several posters were repped for very dubious reasons and a few relatively highly-repped guys really didn't have the brains or life-experience to merit that...

The flip side is of course... that's just an incentive for me to put even more effort into the forum.

So... some kind of way to encourage quality over quantity. And bitching, whining and complaining should be grounds for warnings (unless it's in a rant-rave thread or the forum lounge so other members can avoid it if they want).
