Oh man, you just nailed what was bugging me about Rick's characterization in season 3. He's turned into the gamma fantasy self where he's always right in every situation and in a position of smug superiority. The bit where he's psychologizing Jerry while the alien snake is slowly consuming Jerry is telling: it's a gamma display of "I know everything and I need you to see and acknowledge that I know everything". Once again there's no payoff in the writing for the reality that while Rick sees Jerry as a predator on Beth for tying her down with a family at a young age, Rick is presently a predator on Beth by tearing her family apart. I wonder if Harmon was a gamma all along and the old writers they had in seasons 1 and 2 were responsible for fleshing out the characters correctly. Similar to how the old Star Wars was better when George Lucas had less control over everything. Plus I can see female writing staff not actually daring to challenge Harmon if he's pushing stupid shit, and why the old staff would have left or gotten canned in the first place. Gammas are shit managers.
