Men Try To Rob Woman Who Is A Brazilian MMA Fighter


MMA fighter Monique Bastos was headed to a jiu-jitsu class with two friends in Acailandia, Brazil when they were attaked by two thugs who wanted their phones. What happened next is a lesson on why you don’t try and rob just anybody….



“I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones,” Bastos told MMAFighting.com. “I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one.”

Bastos, who has six professional MMA fights on her record and a few jiu-jitsu matches and muay thai bouts, got him into a rear-naked choke and took him to the sidewalk, where she locked a triangle choke and waited for the police.

Wesley Sousa de Araujo was arrested 15 minutes later, and that was not the first time Bastos had to stop a robbery.

“I’ve been through this a few times before, and it’s the second time I fought back,” she said. “There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned.”

This is how idiotic rumors spread. You took what she said completely out of context. She said she made more money that Floyd per second in her last fight than Floyd did(which may or may not be true). She didn't say her net worth was more than Floyd. That wouldn't make sense since thats an pretty tangible statement. It would be as dumb as Ronda saying she is taller than Tom Brady.

Her highest paying fight netted under $13k a second. Floyd's is around $102k, possibly higher after final PPV numbers.

Thats not what she made for the fight. Most of her money is in the backend from PPV points. Randy Couture's contract from 8 years ago was the following;



Less than 100,000 buys: No money
100,000-175,000 buys: $1.00/buy
175,000-300,000 buys: $1.50/buy
300,000-330,000 buys: $2.00/buy
Over 330,000 buys: $3.00/buy

UFC 190 did probably at least 900,000 buys based on 3 sources(Dave Meltzer , UFC brass hinting at ridiculous PPV numbers, web traffic was record breaking for a UFC event) At the very least a lot of people bought the PPV.

Adding everything up with her show money she did at the very bottom $2.3 million. Her contract is almost guaranteed to be better than the above numbers based on inflation, UFC PPV price increase, high profile Champs today know the old contract and get negotiate against it. If she made over 3.5 million she probably did beat Floyd per second. She might have easily made that much. $3.5 million is not much for a star on a PPV that sells 900,000 buys at $55 a pop.

I'm sorry, I must have indeed missed the context where she was trying to imply on any level that she makes more money than Floyd Mayweather.

Whatever metric you're using, it was a silly thing for her to say.

The first round was even more beautiful than the KO. Rousey was utterly exposed, outclassed in all facets. I suspected this sort of thing would happen, I'm not a MMA guy, but was lured in by the hype to watch her fights. Every time I saw her fights they looked like standard fights between rachets after a club on a given Saturday night. Her opponents had no technique. Holm, being a boxing champ, definitely had some quality technique and showed what a fraud Rousey has been, being built up to these great heights on the back of hot air. The KO was just icing on the cake.

That's leaving off the feminist angle, which already took a hit this week with the revelations about Rousey beating up an ex-bf.
