Simplicity in God

Hello RVF forum. I've been interacting with a solid, local church recently and got some good advice for the start of my journey.

-Start with simple, practical steps to grow your faith.

I was recommended four bible verses to read whenever I needed these ideas reinforced.

1. Free your heart from hatred. -Leviticus 19:17
You shall not hate your fellow countryman in your heart; you may surely reprove your neighbor, but shall not incur sin because of him.

2. Live simply. -Psalms 116:6
The Lord preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.

3. Give more. -Deuteronomy 15:11
For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’

4. Expect less. -Jeremiah 45:5
But you, are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I am going to bring disaster on all flesh,’ declares the Lord, ‘but I will give your life to you as booty in all the places where you may go.


What simple, practical steps are you taking to strengthen your faith? Please share so we can learn.

Hey Blake,

Just tonight I picked up the Bible for the first time in years. I told myself I would only read a few pages and ended up reading a few chapters.

Here are a couple lines I highlighted:

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”

Reading the Bible and prayer are practical steps that have worked for me.

A simple practical step I've taken is wearing a cross necklace. I keep it inside whatever shirt I'm wearing - a simple, yet practical everyday commitment to strengthen my faith.

Since wearing it, whenever I go to bed and take it off, I'm reminded to pray before I lay down, and in the morning when I go to put in on.

If I ever pray during the day, I take it off and hold it or take it out over my shirt and grasp it in my hand.

I wear a cord bracelet with crosses as well - in case the one around my neck slips my mind, I always have them visible on my wrist.

I have never been one for accessories before this - ever - until committing to Christ.

Also, when praying, other than kneeling down before bed, in the privacy of my home, I prefer the Tebow way to pray - my go-to prayer stance!

Keeps it simple and it's easy to remember - going down on one knee, and bowing your head (optionally resting your first on your forehead)
