Playoff baseball is modern day theatre to me. It's the only major sport I can think of that doesn't utilize a clock, so like last night you can have a 47 minute inning. Or in some cases a 7 minute one.
If you hate baseball April-September...October is when the casual fan is won over. This is really where baseball usually shines; the story lines, chances at redemption, the history passed from old to young is unlike a lot of other sports.
I started the season rooting for my particular team, but by the time the playoffs are over you can easily find yourself cheering for new favorites.

His showboating is not only disrespecting the game, but its spiting on the graves of great players that paved the way for Bautista, who followed the rules and paid respect to the beautiful game of baseball. What message does he send to the next generation of baseball players? That the game is a joke? That it can be corrupted with low-class showboating?
Its sickening, and quite frankly I'm disgusted. Bautista should at least be fined for that. There's really no place for that in baseball.
Someone should sit these Latino players down and teach them the rules. I blame baseball for their lax stance on all of this. They are ruining the game.

I don't think he was trying to show up the Rangers or bring attention to himself. It was an emotional game and the biggest moment in his career.
He's playing for a team that hasn't made the postseason in 22 years. They're starving for success, and had a bad break in the top of the 7th when Martin made that throw that hit Choo's bat
that led to them being down a run. Bautista's homer gave them a sizable lead that gave them the win. I get it, it's not always appropriate to showboat and whatnot. If he had done that during a game in April or May I'd understand it not being appropriate.
But he showed emotion during a pivotal moment in a do-or-die game. He badly wanted to win, as did the fans and the team, and that moment it was definitely appropriate to celebrate and show his passion for the game. I don't think he could have even planned a bat flip as epic as how he ended up doing it.
I know these guys get criticized a lot for making so much money and at times, they don't really give it their all and just show up to collect a paycheck. But deep down, some of these guys really care and when the stakes are high, it's normal and perfectly fine to just let out your emotions after a big play that helps your team win.
He shouldn't have to pretend that the homerun didn't matter and act like a robot just because he doesn't want to upset baseball purists after making the biggest play of his career and leading his team to the ALCS. In the postseason, every pitch and every swing of the bat matters a ton. There's just so much tension in every play. It's what caused Elvis Andrus to mess up repeatedly which put runners on base and gave Bautista the opportunity to hit that 3-run shot.
I for one enjoy seeing which players thrive under this pressure and which ones choke. This is what makes the baseball playoffs amazing to watch, and why I always tune in every October.

I'm all for a little showmanship after a homer such as a quick bat flip or a little Barry Bonds spin move, but this had everything that pitchers hate. Not only did he flip (more like savagely throw) his bat, he admired his hit for 2+ seconds.
Each pitcher I imagine has a different tolerance on what crosses the line of "showing him up." I have no doubt that this would have eclipsed every pitcher's acceptance level of showboating. When Toronto and Texas meet next year for the first time, he's getting one right in the back.

I remember watching baseball in the late 90s during the Yankees dynasty years and it was rare to see Latino players. Maybe a stupid question, but why did MLB feel the need to import Cuban and Dominican players all of a sudden? Was something lacking in baseball? Was it really just to diversify the game?

I don't really know why everyone is thinking that all of a sudden, BOOM, Latin America just started taking over baseball in the states. Its presence has been felt since most of us were born. Since 1967 at least 10% of the league has been comprised of players born in Latin America. Link
Owners and GMs never cared, and probably still don't care about diversifying the game. They obviously saw a huge talent pool that was untapped from which to profit. I don't know which team or ownership group began to profit off the DR and Venezuela before the rest of the league caught on, but the supply of stud players was simply too much to ignore.
Personally I feel more Latinos succeed in making it to the majors now is due to teams investing more on assimilating prospects into American culture. Rather than a sink or swim mentality used 30-40 years ago, teams give their prospects every chance to succeed, whereas before it was on you (the player) to adjust without as much guidance from the team.
