Make sure to have a cross next to your bed and more prayer before sleep.
Many times I have "addressed" the entity with scripture in the dream.3 am is Witching Hour, which in my experience is when almost all such sleep related things happen.
I do believe it is prudent to be sound asleep or full awake at such an hour. The worst is being in a stage of light sleep, having perhaps gone to bed at 2 am. That leaves the door open for the things that lurk in the darkness, even worse if you've been dabbling in the occult in the form of Netflix or movies or having items which may be considered blasphemous in your bedroom.
If caught in such a situation at witching hour, I do the sign of the cross several times.
In all likelihood there is nothing demonic about it but I can see where that notion comes from. It happens to me whether I am relaxed or under some stress.Make sure to have a cross next to your bed and more prayer before sleep.
Good catch on sleeping on your back. I can't prove it but I think it's possible it happens more frequently in that position for me but it has happened all over. I have never gotten a look at this shadowy figure. All I know is it wants to do some kind of harm to me. I don't know if it represents something or I am afraid of something or what exactly, but I don't think I have ever tried to see it since I think I am afraid to. I have never had it try to interact with me.
How I know it is in the room is something in the room is obvously off like furniture isn't in the right place, there is a mess where there should't be, or maybe a light is on when I know it shouldn't be. The most common way is when I flip a light switch on and nothing happens. Then I get a little worried and try a second light switch. If that also doesn't work, then I know I am in trouble and I start to panic and try to get out of there.
Another common scenario in my sleep paralysis is when I can't find my car in the parking lot. It is all of a sudden dark and no cars to be found. Eventually it dawns on me that "it" has removed my car to be alone with me, then I get the willies and try to shake out of it. Most of the the times in the dream it takes place in the home I grew up in or an apartment I lived in for 22 years.
I would be surprised this ever goes away. I have been happily married for five years and have my wife right next to me in bed, and this still happens. The sleep doctor says he has never heard of this before. He even tested me for drugs before a sleep study (without me knowing it).
It is not clear exactly what causes sleep paralysis. According to Jalal and colleagues, it is associated with sleep disruption, which is a common side effect of narcolepsy, and is common in people with psychiatric conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
...
Jalal’s research is a small-scale pilot study exploring the efficacy of meditation-relaxation therapy as a treatment for sleep paralysis in people with narcolepsy. This is a condition that sleep paralysis sometimes accompanies.
The hallucinations that accompany sleep paralysis fall broadly into three categories:
As the new study points out, “Supernatural interpretations of [sleep paralysis] are found worldwide and often reflect the cultural background of the population in question.”
- a dangerous intruder or ominous presence nearby
- difficulty breathing, perhaps due to an imagined assault
- vestibular-motor sensations, such as falling, flying, or leaving the body
Meditation-relaxation therapy
As part of meditation-relaxation therapy, the scientists suggest taking the following actions during a sleep paralysis event:
- reappraising the meaning of the attack — that is, reminding oneself that what is occurring is non-dangerous, temporary, and common, and that any perceived hallucinations are nothing more than a continuation of dreaming
- distancing oneself emotionally and psychologically — that is, reassuring oneself that there is no reason for fear, and that fear and worry may only extend the experience
- trying inward-focused-attention meditation — that is, shifting one’s focus to a positive topic such as a happy memory
- relaxing the muscles — that is, consciously trying to relax one’s muscles without attempting movement or making an effort to deliberately control breathing
Appreciate the information. My sleep doctor suspected narcolepsy to which I completely disagreed as I do not have that. Before he retired he had me stay the next morning after a sleep study to do what I would call a narcolepsy sleep study where I had to stay there and take about four naps the next day. Nothing, no narcolepsy. I think people with narcolepsy can fall asleep during the day, like, when they are driving or working.Yikes.
I had conversations with 2 friend after it happened the last time. One of them has it occasionally, he thinks they are demons, told me not to interact with it, as I told him some people doing that (some post i saw on reddit), but to fight back by calling upon Jesus. This friend watches a lot of horror movies, he likes the thrill of it, and often times enjoys the similar out of body experience with sleep paralysis.
My other friend has had it a couple of times but never one with the supernatural presence. He was saying how we must've watched horror movies or drank alcohol, etc.
Some people who experience sleep paralysis don't experience the supernatural (good for them). It almost seems fake and made up to one who haven't experienced it.
Article I found that was published last month:

It's nice knowing that some other people realize they have had sleep paralysis and know what it is. I don't think I have talked to anyone in my life who did.
Interesting. 99.9 percent of the time I am alone in my SP episodes.I get this routinely but I am lucky in the fact it is not a negative feeling or scary. It lasts I'd guess 5-10 seconds and ends with an intense vibration that shocks me out of it. I usually get a hallucination involving a knock on the door or a family member/friends voices. It is usually the end of a dream where I am in a social setting with people I know and I awake still hearing their voices.
I have about half a dozen sleep studies and naturally no sleep paralysis occurred. The studies are fine and I use the CPAP during them. Then I go home and return to having sleep paralysis. Two just last night. My mother who lives with us sleeps upstairs and she told me this morning she could tell I had trouble last night.I used to have a lot of SP episodes. I sleep with a cpap now. Occasionally I will nap on my carpeted floor and have had SP episodes occur.. That is the only time incidents occur now. If i wear the CPAP it doesn't happen. I am not discrediting the spiritual side of the occurrences ... but when proper respiratory aids are in place it doesn't occur. I would suggest a sleep study. It will help, one way or the other regarding sleep paterns.
That's right. I bet some alien encouners were related to SP.I've had SP episodes when I was younger, yes they were scary but after a few times I was used to it.
I found I was able to drive away the bad sensation by changing my mood - laughing or getting angry at the "entity" rather than being scared or panicking and trying to wake up.
Other posters mentioned saying a prayer, I suppose it has a similar effect of changing your mental state, focusing on something other than the fear and taking control of the situation. I personally never considered SP to be a spiritual or religious experience.
Later in life I played around some with lucid dreaming and astral projection, to me they felt very different and unrelated to SP, but some people say that when you are half awake you could have a lucid dream or go into SP, kind of like a bad trip.
I have read somewhere that SP is a defense mechanism of our lizard brain being awake while the body still sleeps, realising we are in a vulnerable state (unable to move) and becoming hyper aware of potential threats and predators, which is what causes the foreboding feeling of an "evil presence" and trying as hard as we can to wake our body up completely.
Some experience it as aliens, some call it demons, for others it's vampires. I have yet to hear or read of anyone who was physically or mentally harmed by SP, but it's not a pleasant experience.
Tremendous resource there, I can relate to so much of it. I had seven of the nine components. Thank you for your offer to be contacted. Since it has happened to me for at least 50 years I think I am in the category of inherited. Strange things would happen to me as early as I can remember when going to sleep or waking up. Maybe I stress out too much, even when I don't think I am?I used to have regular SP but it went away forever once I took care of severe candida overgrowth, followed by repairing the gut (intestinal permeability). It seems that I am not the only one: https://radiclehealing.com.au/tag/candida/
PM me if you want the healthcare practitioner I worked with to address this problem - candida overgrowth is a very complicated and I would not recommend using what you find on the internet to attempt to address it.
I would suspect it is related. That humming, vibrating feeling is the only good thing about SP, once you realize you aren't dying. The hormones that lock you down are just doing their job with the mind still awake, they aren't going to wait. The sensation while that happens is wonderful and unlike anything else.I used to experience it when I was a teenager and early twenties. Op's description of that 'vibration' sensation really brought back the memory of it. I used to see how far into that vibration phase I could go and still pull myself out of it. Not far... Lol. I remember it being scarey as hell and me being the stubborn kid that I was, I never told anyone about it. I also had no idea what it was at the time. I recall that it would happen mostly when I would lie on my back. I don't recall when it actually stopped, but it was sometime during my early 20s.
Presently, I don't have any known sleep issues, but I do frequently have the sensation of my hearing shutting down just before I go to sleep. I also have that sensation, in the reverse order, upon waking up sometimes. My mind will wake up and be aware for a short of period time prior to my being aware of any sounds. It's like my hearing is muted or something. I figure it is related to SP since I have that breif history of SP. It's not disturbing like the SP when I was a kid, just noticeable.
I used to get this demonic sleep paralysis dream occasionally when I would sleep on my back. It would be a normal dream, but then someone or thing in the dream would be physically molesting me with a finger in the ribs most often. The more I tried to fight it the worse it would get and I couldn't make myself wake up. Sometimes I did wake up and I would be clutching myself protectively, but also putting pressure into that spot on my ribs. Very annoying and creepy, but it seems to have gone away with prayers from a Christian group that specializes in ESP and that kind of thing (they are cool but probably a cult). I think it was a ghost and not an evil being per-se.Last it happened was about 2 weeks ago, the demon was walking towards me and I felt it trying to attack me. I subconsciously found myself saying the Jesus prayer and saw the shadow slowly dissipate. I woke up and my entire body was soaked with sweat. I check the time and it was 3:30 am. I was still a bit shook so I grabbed my phone and put on a sermon. Fell asleep, woke up again a few hours ago. but this time I felt great.
I was sleeping on my back, which seems to be a common pattern when people experience it.
As someone who has experienced this for about 50 years, I have great trouble thinking it is demonic. There may well be a spiritual element to it, maybe in the form of an hyper sensitive conscience. Many of us claim there is some kind of an evil or harmful element to it, in the form of something we can't see. It may very well be hereditary too.I used to get this demonic sleep paralysis dream occasionally when I would sleep on my back. Lucid dreaming is crazy man! Sleep paralysis is actually a gateway to lucid dreaming! I used to practice lucid dreaming years ago, but it got too weird and I stopped. I still don't understand the spiritual aspects of dreams so I'm cautious about lucid dreaming now. I need to look into lucid dreams a lot further before I attempt to do them again.
