Defaming someone to their family members and friends, versus the "business" world is an entirely different case. Defamation cases are a bitch to make stick. I've looked into them. They have to be able to associate a clear monetary value of loss. If for instance, he defamed her to her father, and her father had a 7 mil trust fund set up in her name that he pinched her off from due to the information sent in the email defaming her, THEN, I hate to say it, she's got a case.
But where he really fucked up is "smearing her on his webzine." Not sure about other states, but in Ohio, in my county, you can get a Civil Protection Order against someone IF 4 or more occurrences happen within a month's time (the magistrate had to leave my hearing in attempts to have a CPO applied to the above-mentioned cunt, to look up the specific code). It's sill but it takes THAT many repeat occurrences of harassment to get a CPO applied. The difference is their harassment then becomes criminal when reported, and you can get their ass put in jail.
