Reducing social media consumption has been an ongoing crusade of mine but this year I'm taking it a bit more seriously. I tried using one of those screen time monitoring apps but found it completely useless because there was no consequence for going over. Instead, I'm engineering out my consumption by deleting accounts and apps. -Deleted Facebook account - absolutely pointless platform. -Deleted Twitter app - useful, but easy to overindulge. I still read desktop Twitter and keep my account for posting. If I have any ideas for tweets while out and about, I write them in my notes app and publish later. -Deleted Instagram app - this one is a major time suck. You'd be surprised how easy it is to lose hours browsing memes, sports clips, and booty pics. I re-download and check DM's every week or so, and post photos. This allows me the benefits of Instagram (keeping in touch with friends, girls, etc.) without the negatives. -Similarly, I regularly delete and re-install Tinder every other day or so. This allows me to get my swipes in and follow up with chicks without increasing thirst levels. In addition, I'd bet my irregular responses keeps girls on their toes. -Installed K9 Web Protection - originally this was to block porn on my desktop, but I'm also using it to limit mindless browsing. I'm blocking Instagram, Reddit, and 4chan. These are zero ROI sites and never need to be browsed. -Deleted YouTube app. If I want to watch something, desktop is there. -Use Self-Control on desktop to block out YouTube, Twitter, and RVF when I need to focus. -Deleted all email apps. I can check them on desktop. The result is that my phone is very light. It's literally text, call, music, WhatsApp, and RVF. I understand some couldn't do this because of work, but I don't need to be plugged in 24-7. Everything can get done on desktop when I get home. So far I already feel more calm and relaxed, especially when out and about.
