East Coast states are expensive Moma, keep that in mind. I know you've seen threads on here with guys having roommates and paying almost $1,000 a month.
I wanna come south but right now I am looking at job offers. Anything East and North I gotta ask for higher to compensate for the cost of living.
Ideally, I've told recruiters that I want the south. It's time for me to try living in nice weather for the entire year. And winters for y'all in the South don't even phase cats like me.
Remember, I've gone cycling in (-33 Celsius/-25.6 Fahrenheit) weather. I was wrapped up well but well, locals looked at me like I was sick in the skull.
I second what Houston says. The tri state area is very expensive(NY-NJ-CT) and outside of NYC metro area you are going to need a car . Also, traffic and tolls add up so you going to have to budget for commuter trains(LIRR, MNRR, NJ Transit) monthly passes that aren't cheap. And to top it off because of global warming, sorry, I meant Climate Change. The weather keeps getting shittier and shittier. I don't even know what to wear anymore. I can't wait to move out of this shitty city.
Not to brag but just to prove a point, I make in the 120K range and I live in the hood in Brooklyn. I can't afford to go out every weekend!!!! My co workers who have wives/kids who don't work and live in the suburbs all have second gigs. Between taxes(Federal, NYS and NYC ) and deductions(Health insurance, 401k's, pensions) half your shit is gone before it even gets direct deposited into your account. From the other half you have to pay your rent/mortgage, utilities, commuting cost, car note and insurance, etc...You see the point? very little is left for savings, chasing lizards around and buying Ciroc Coconut. Trust me, you are not going to have the time or energy to go cycling in -33 C weather..
If I were you, I would do Florida or GA, sure wages are lower than the Eastern states but they more than make up for it with great weather, lower housing cost and overall cheaper cost of living and pleasant attitudes of people.
