Of course I've been plenty of times to the US..NYC, Miami, Orlando, Vegas...it definitely has some nice places to visit but to live there? I couldn't do it unless it's an offer I can't refuse (500K+/year).

Vacancier - One cannot live in North America and rule out US. Trust me on this, whatever happens to the US, happens to Canada.

A dad cannot lose a job without his son's stomach growling. And Canada is the son of the US. I know COUNTLESS people who moved from the US to Canada. None of them are whooping and hollaring about the improvement in lifestyle.

I know quite a few that moved from Canada to US. Immediate jump up in standard of living.

My point is, if I am going to live in North America and I have the option of US and Canada, I might as well give US a shot.

^ This is the right mindset. Canada is a delusional place I keep telling people Canada is joined at the hip literally (legally, culturally, financially) with the USA. And Canada will suffer far more then America will when the game of musical chairs ends. For me a man whom rags on the states quite a bit I see no reason to not venture down there in your young years and hustle. Its no place to live long term or to raise children (IMO) but to stick your neck out and make something of yourself there is no better place. Canada will hold you back until your to old too realize and yell (FUCK!). The greatest piece of propaganda is Canada thinking they are above America when America rules us softly with a a bold fist.

Canada is nothing more than a Banana Republic with a Petro Dollar. If you work in the resource sector your strait but all other sectors in Canada are being leeched right now: Real Estate is some of the highest in the world, are economy is barley more productive than the lazy Italians, we have higher debt per capita then the USA, are exports are getting killed at rates of 8-10% per year due to are higher dollar, the Govt refuses to invest in tech or any other viable industries, baby boomers...... taxes.. which are both about to pop off - I can go on and on. You tell a Canadian this though they laugh you out of the room. But I knew it was the truth when I got my old man to concede this. He knows full well he was on a rocket launcher to the top in America then once he came here his progress and career stalled like mud. He did not need to say anything, I could see it in his eyes.

Since I will be more quailafied after school then most Americans in my field going down south to slug it out is seriously at play in my mind. I am either heading into resource to stack quickly (VP's route), the hinterlands for a few years to get robust pay (The Artic & Northern Canada), or I am going to cut my teeth in America for a few years and live dirt cheap and stack.

Canada makes people lazy. There is something hellish and sick that motivates somebody when they realize if they do not hustle they will starve or die. Its damn hard to end up in the dumps in Canada, it really is. As my one favorite professor said: "you have to try really hard to screw yourself over in Canada and end up at the bottom". It takes more effort to live that way and end up on the street then it is to just be mediocre and do nothing great.

Try hard in Canada and you get rewarded with a shitty Govt job in a cubicle making 45K. Try hard in America.. boom or bust you get the fruits of your labor to enjoy.

Canadians have no real culture. We really don't. Are culture is sold to us by Americans. And from a young age Canadians see that America is just more glossy and robust than Canada. America has a 12 inch cock and Canada has a 6 (sorry for the analogy :s). Even though size really has nothing to do with performance Canadians deep down worry and think it does and thus act timid and hold its self back since they feel they are not up to task.

It is more intense in some parts (GTA) and nonexistent in others (Quebec does not give a fuck about America and have built up their own culture, Atlantic Canada has strong ties to America that pre-date Canada so they do not care so much either). The rest of Canada thought has a sick and twisted fetish for America tho no doubt.

Example: When a shitty chain like IHOP or Applebees opens in your City people go nuts and start cheering. I wouldn't feed that crap to my dog but Canadians feel that food is some how better since Americans eat it. lol

I would shoot for Atlanta or New Orleans as primary big city destinations.

Medium size cities I would personally target (if you could find work): Charlotte, NC, Virginia Beach, VA (only 25% black), Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC, and Savannah, GA.

And there is always eMech to show you around Tampa, and in Florida you have great beaches. After a winter in Toronto, that is something to think about.

I agree with mechanico... go with Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater. Once you live near or on the water in a warm area like Florida or California it's hard to live anywhere else. I used to live in St. Pete Beach for 3 years and it was great. Hot locals and easy tourists... geez Canadian chicks were so easy! You know you want to see your beloved Canadians down in Florida. Don't fight it.

Out in the pool on New Years day. Great outdoor lifestyle. Relatively cheap housing/rents. I'm guessing it's a lot easier to make friends and build social circles than Atlanta too. Easy travel down to Caribbean and DR. Great area to get your headspace right too.

I live in Austin, TX now... if you want jobs in the USA, you go to Texas. And in Texas you go to Austin. Hot women here too.

Well I am sad to see Moma leave, I have tried talking to him to stay but he has his reason's and one cannot blame him.

I must say though I agree with VP, America is the last place I would want to live. Sure I love coming down there to vacation but after a few days I am ready to come home. The only place that really interested me was Tampa, I was there earlier in the year and the vibe was unreal. Women were actually making eye contact, something I only experience in Europe.

I have heard great things about Austin, Portland and California. The rest of the country you can keep, the places I have been too seem very segregated and race is still a BIG issue there.

Canada (Toronto) use to be a great place, now we seem to be taken over by the Multi-nationals. Yes, agreed we get excited when a new US company comes here, then a month later no one talks about it (eg Krispy Kreme, Marshalls). To be fair we are bombarded with so much US media, I still think a vast majority of Canadians think shows like 90120 is a true reflection of California and Sex in the City is a reflection of NYC.

Also due to Immigration, a load of skilled foreigners have come here and saturated the job market. So now Employers ask for so many qualifications for a job that does not require the skills they are asking for. The salaries have pretty much gone backwards over the last few years. That alone would make me leave.

Canada is fucked both ways. Raise the interest rate, they raise the value of the currency and and their resource & manufacturing sectors get hit. Most of canada's economy is their resource sector, even though a good chunk of canadians do not realize it. Keep the interest rate low and they keep on pumping their real estate bubble.

About getting rid of your stuff, Craiglist is an alternative to Kiji. Offline, you can try to sell your books to BMV. There are three locations that buy books: at Yonge and Eglinton, Bloor and Spadina area and Edward Street (close to the Eaton Centre). I'm sure you can get rid of your bike at one of those places that sell used bikes. You may be stuck with the old porno.
