And also there are multiple competing factions within the Russian government itself, which is why we see seemingly contradictory statements and policies from them.

A Mexican friend told me there is a website that documents all that stuff, head choppings and such, which is mostly unreported by the media, but I did not wish to view it.

The question therefore is what will be the outcome of the war depending on which side wins? What will aid the good, and what will aid the bad? Not "who" is good and who is bad. Only God is good.
