I like J.J. Abrams but A) the trailer looks lame, basically doesn't show anything

It is a teaser not a trailer. It is not suppose to show much of anything, some of the footage might not be included in the final movie.

I'm guessing it's meant to function like a hilt on a sword. A defensive tool, not an offensive one.

I light saber could just cut right through at the base of the grib, I can't see how the guard have a practical. The vikings had it right the first time around, guards just get in the way of fighting.

To the posters complaining about the impracticality and non-realism of the red double-light saber...you do realize light sabers are not real, right?

You do realize that sci-fi/fantasy movies only work when they are rooted in a reality we can understand.

Also... black stormtroopers? Er, what?

How do you know he is a stormtrooper?

One thing that's hopeful is Lawrence Kasdan doing the screenplay, though I didn't like the Ewoks.

What will suck about the movie, like most these days is you'll have some strong, feminist type of character that's tougher than nails who must be respected, even bowed down to by the male heroes. She will be portrayed as smarter, more clever, and usually right while the males are just there to do the heavy lifting. She of course will spend much of her time on screen killing other men.

I don't care how highly (or over-) rated JJ Abrams is, Hollywood giving its two most legendary sci-fi franchises to the same guy is a head-scratcher.

Yeah I'm curious about how close they keep things with the books (which were well done) or if they just disregard that completely.

It would be fun to see Mara Jade, Jacen, Jaina, etc. on the big screen.

. . .It's obvious that you have never learned any type of sword fighting arts - I took up fencing for 3 years in college, which included the french foil (the small malleable sword you see when everyone tries to portray it in media)the Saber, and Spanish Rapier and Dagger(dual wielding style).

The guard its Pretty damn important(not important as footwork but still), ESPECIALLY in Spanish Rapier and dagger. Also, if you're really good you can use the guard to disarm your opponents.

I wish people on this site would stop talking out of their ass so much when they have no idea wtf they're talking about, seriously.

From the voiceover and lightsaber, it looks like Darth Maul is back.

Also... black stormtroopers? Er, what?

PASS.
Ha...Really.. You aren't gonna watch the movie cause there is a black storm trooper..and you think a lightsaber is stupid.

Bruh.

Are you kidding me

Hoping this movie will be good. Ideally it won't be 'soul-less' like the last few X-men flicks and Guardians of the Galaxy.

The last 2 X-Men movies (the rebooted ones) and GOTG have been critically acclaimed more than any of the Star Wars prequels, let alone movies in their own category like the let downs of X-Men 3, Iron Man 3, and Spider-Man 3.

I'm not sure what your basis of comparison is for "soul-less" unless you're referring to the original Star Wars that started in the 70's?

Surely you don't want more Jar Jar Binks type silliness.

I agree that guard/hilt is important, but wouldn't a lightsaber just cut through the metal part that connects everything?

That could be pretty easily explained though.

Also I get the feeling that black guy isn't a stormtrooper. I think it's a disguise. Definitely a weird way to start a trailer though.

I have no problem with a black stormtrooper, whether that guy is supposed to be one for real or not. The Empire is supposed to be humanocentric, but I doubt they give much thought to whether or not their humans are the correct color.

I'll be walking into the theater with a woody when I see this. Can't wait. Hopefully the dumb little droid thing isn't going to be the new Jar Jar.

It would be worth mentioning that the viking shields is a major part of the fighting style. Let's be honest here for a sec, you don't know what I know and don't know, you assume, based on a post about a light saber. Here is why viking swords don't have guards: dkhpqAGdZPc?t=20m24s

And here is the teaser remastered by George Lucas :)

I'm not sure if he is a storm trooper, since they would have been disbanded after Return of Jedi. They were the emperors army.

Here's a clip of Darth Vader running some game

Lmao, that was hilarious. Vader's so beta, he turned to the Dark Side for his wife. My only takeaway from the first 6 Episodes was that simping will ruin the entire galaxy.

Every Jedi's date ends in a bang thanks to the Jedi Mind Trick, that why Obi Wan never became a Sith

The last few Xmen flicks and Gotg were good popcorn flicks, decent acting, etc. But there was no substance or plot twists, they were entertaining but predictable. A tried and tested Hollywood success formula for big budget hero flicks.

On the other hand the newest 3 Star Wars films were...well quite frankly jut not good in any way.
