The black guy might be a good actor, I'll him and the movie a shot. The original Star Wars casts were pretty diverse anyway...not to mention that half of the characters were fucking aliens. As a previous poster said, getting butthurt over race in a universe that includes thousands of alien species is nonsensical.

I think JJ is one of the few directors who can toe the line pretty effectively between hollywood big FX & sci-fi/nerd topics. On the FX side you have Michael Bay movies, which all blow and have no substance, on the other side you have movies that you usually never hear of. Then you have JJ who blends them both pretty well.

Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Will Smith, Samuel Jackson have been leading roles forever. It's not just black people watching their movies.
Clearly, black leads aren't the reason for non blacks to not go to the movies.
This isn't Nigeria..America has a more diverse population.

Star Wars has asked broken presales ticket records by millions.
I don't think the black lead actor is discouraging people from going to see the movie.

Heh - I am not offended by anything.

Couldn't care less frankly. Mace Windu as one of the most powerful Jedi in the previous series fit perfectly.

This time around it has a different feel - also I don't like that actor John Boyega, but hey that's casting.

Also - there is a marked difference between a lead that the core demographic of kids and adults identify with and another character. For a top-tier movie franchise for children it is a massive change. They could have made everyone Filippino and then said "What? Any problems? You all racists?" at the press conference. That would have been a good joke. In addition the main lead will hook up with the girl, so that sends a clear message to the young for the next years.

Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Will Smith, Samuel Jackson all are favorite actors of mine (Will Smith less as an actor - but he is exceedingly cool) - also Dave Chappelle my favorite comedian (shame he stopped his show which was the best).

Still - with all we know about the stupid elite, especially the Jewish elite, is it any wonder that we are sick of that crap? This enforced diversity pushing is great, while in reality the very elite is whiter than Wonderbread. Maybe they will add the fact that the lead is from a planet where they have a Muslim-like religion. Then they will have all SJW-points ticked off.

I can dislike a choice of casting and subliminal message of a movie without being a racist. On the other hand - who am I kidding? Most of it is propaganda and was so for a long time. It's just pushing the narrative one step further of what the public and their children are supposed to see and like.

I think his issue is the changing of the demography of the leads. Its a different effect to a new movie being produced. White guys can obviously associate with a movie like the first star wars movie more personally, because the lead was a young ambitious white guy, solo was a badass youthful middle-age guy, obiwan was an old wise uncle-like white guy etc. Western whites who grow up with these things associate these things to themselves almost like "emotional memory possessions". I.e. "it was one of their stories". It is something they can relate themselves to during their childhood development, i.e. "aspire to be heroic like Luke or Solo" etc. People, especially children, do this naturally: he speaks like me, looks like me, wants the same things as me etc. We already know about this in the same way black kids look up to black rap artists etc.

When demography of the leads is then changed, these whites feel dispossessed of something. And for obvious 21st century reasons, whites feel quite sensitive to and aggrieved by (further) dispossession. It feels like the world is alienating them.

It would be like the Wire suddenly changing to a cast of Bulgarian street gangs, instead of black Baltimore gangs. Or like changing the lead of Men in Black from Will Smith to Benicio Del Toro.

Why would they need to do such a thing, instead of just keeping the same basic 'star wars' formula of white center characters? The only explanation can be political motives on the part of the producers. Same deal as Mad Max. The star wars formula, the mad max formula, must be torn down and rebuilt in their 'politically acceptable' image.

Whites have no problem with non-white leads at all. They never watch Jackie Chan or Will Smith and say "this movie is great but the lead isn't white so I hate it". Being constantly dispossessed of everything up to and including your cultural heritage... little bit.

Here's my beef:

-The black dude above is wearing a stormtrooper uniform.
-The stormtroopers came from the clone army in the 1-3 trilogy, hence Star Wars 2: Attack of the Clones.
-The clones were based off the genetic template of Jango Fett, father of Boba Fett (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Episode_II:_Attack_of_the_Clones)
-Therefore all clones must look the exact same, and be white because Jango Fett is white! Therefore you can't have diversity among the stormtroopers.

That said, I haven't seen the movie obviously, I'm just going off the trailer. But if that basic piece of the storyline is not adhered to then it's completely ridiculous and off the original script.

I mentioned this in the other star wars thread. Only the initial stormtroopers were clones. Look up the star wars wikia if you want to read about their full history. But the bottom line is that by the time even the original series takes place, many of the stormtroppers are regular conscripts. Hell, not even all of the stormtroopers at that time were even human.
