Hi all,

I thought I would come on here and ask for suggestions and prayers for my brother who is in a pretty difficult situation and has not been able to find a stable job with a stable income for a very long time. He is educated and has some level of experience and keeps going to interviews and just keeps getting knocked back by your usual soulless types in the industry. I can't help but feel utter despair for him, I have tried everything to help him. He is a Christian, righteous, kind, etc. but just gets rejected by every job he goes for. I just don't get it. Really dumb people get high positions, (not to be rude) this is causing problems in my life because I constantly worry about him to the point where I have delayed everything in my life to try and help him get on his feet. I think about his situation all the time and feel so hopeless. I appreciate your prayers.

God Bless.

If you're smarter than the people hiring you they don't tend to like it. I've always found that weird because you'd think you would want smart people working for you, but the ego of average people can't seem to take it. I don't know what your ethnicity is but if he's smart AND white (or appears white), well... It sucks.

My husband is in a similar boat right now. He's been at his current position for about 10 years and it's getting old (there's nowhere to go in the company either), but job hunting is grinding him down. We would like to move and get a house (or at least a bigger apartment, I'm also ready to get pregnant again lol) but we're sort of locked in until then.

He's been getting callbacks and some interviews but it's *very* competitive right now.

I think the workforce is changing in general and there's going to be global competition for every white-collar position. At my husband's company they had somebody working from Japan for years, but their new boss is in another state, their senior editor lives across the country, etc. So they're not looking regionally anymore, or asking people to relocate, and it's making the applicant pool larger.

I'm working part-time but have been picking up extra shifts. Every time I feel down about my boring restaurant job I realize that I can a) walk away and find a new one b) the restaurant industry isn't going to force itself into one's personal life, they hire ex-convicts, illegals, etc. if they can cook and wash dishes. I also work with quite a few blacks who are like hey that vaccine sh*t is killing people, no thanks-- which is awesome. Almost the entire kitchen is in agreement.

Really dumb people get high positions,

Bingo!

Why some people are blessed and some not is a huge topic. But the fault is always on the people's side. (we don't like to hear it, I know).

God doesn't make mistakes and He already promises blessings for believers. If we are in the right state before God (no living in sin, unforgiveness, etc.) then we can ask Him about anything. Then the only reason why people are still not getting answers is lack of Faith.
(the second thing we don't like to hear).

And without faith it is impossible to please God ...He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. HEB 11.6

Without seeking and Faith, there is no reward.

Below is an excerpt from my favorite book, God's plan for man.

FIVE STEPS TO ANSWERED PRAYER. If one will follow faithfully the following steps in prayer he can be sure of an answer: (1) Decide what you want from God and get the Scriptures that definitely promise you these things. Get these promises firmly fixed in the heart and not only in the mind. Be ready to use them against demons who will try to make you doubt God and rob you of what you want.

(2) Ask God for the things you want and believe that you have got them. Believe God, not Satan; the truth, not a lie. Let every single thought and desire affirm that you have got what you asked. Never permit a mental picture of a failure to be in your mind. Never doubt for one minute that you have the answer. If doubts persist, rebuke them and get your mind on the answer and constantly affirm that the promises are true and that prayer has been answered. Eradicate every suggestion, image, vision, dream, impression, feeling; in fact, extirpate all thoughts that do not contribute to your faith that you have what you have asked.

(3) Thoughts are governed by observations, associations, and teachings. Guard against every evil thought that comes into the mind. Stay away from all places and things that will not support your affirmation that God has answered prayer. Meditate constantly on the promises upon which you base the answer to your prayer. See yourself with what you have asked for and make plans accordingly as if it were already a reality. Do not forget what you have asked of God and hold on until the full answer materializes.

(4) Pray constantly and look heavenward. In your waking moments think on the greatness of God and His goodness. Count your blessings and faith will increase. Breathe deeply the life of God in your inner spirit. Lift your heart to God constantly in gratitude and increasing praise for what He has done and for what He is doing for you now. Maintain that all things are possible to the believer.

(5) Make every prayer relative to what you have asked a statement of faith instead of unbelief. You can say “I do have faith” or “I do believe that I have what I have prayed for” just as easily as you can make statements of unbelief. You can think thoughts of faith as easily as you can think thoughts of doubt and unbelief. Do not accept no as an answer. Do not be denied. It is your family right, your redemptive right, your gospel right, and your creative right to have what God has promised. It will come. It is yours now, so accept it and it will become a reality.

Sounding a bit like Job's friends there. Also that whole excerpt sounds like it came from The Secret.

I would say give up on the white collar world. There are many trucking companies, for example, that are short of people and they will pay for your training and you can make decent money doing that. Not all of it is over the road either. It can be hard work especially if you're not used to it, but it's better than no work. This is what my husband did, fwiw. Especially when you've been out of work a while, it just gets more difficult to get hired anywhere in a professional setting.

In my personal experience, when I couldn't reach blessings, then my problem was every single time a lack o faith.
But of course, sometimes I felt so righteous, that I thought, the problem is on God's side, and He is just testing me like Job.

Well, over time I learned, that I'm not that righteous and important as a prophet Job was -)

You know there is only 3 possibility.

1. I did everything right but God did some mistakes.
2. God is right but I'm doing something wrong.
3. God is right, and I'm right too, but because God is considering me as a Job, then the blessing is temporarily unavailable.

"God delights in His children stepping out over the void with nothing under their feet except the Word of God."
There's a Dostoevsky quote I like: "we live in paradise but refuse to see it"
Nice quote, I didn't know it.

I like these two:

"God delights in His children stepping out over the void with nothing under their feet except the Word of God." Lillian B. Yeomans
"The devil knows if he can capture your thought life he has won a mighty victory over you." Smith Wigglesworth

What line of work is he trying to get into? My advice is going to vary based on that.

Your brother is blessed to have a sister to share his burdens.

I recommend this Christian forum, which includes a lot of wisdom, counsel, discussions on economics, and for surviving rough times:

I lot of it is free articles too.

Talking of Job and the story's relevance to us:

"The Book of Job begins with a peculiar story. God challenged Satan to consider His servant Job, how righteous he was. Satan, a strict utilitarian, answered along these lines: "He's in it for the money." He gets favored. Remove the favors, and he will curse you."
To which God said: "He's all yours." That was chapter 1. It happened again in chapter 2.

Job was beaten down. He had lost everything except a wife who gave him bad advice. He asked the classic question: "Why me?"

Four "comforters" came to visit him. Three of them blamed his sin for his troubles. He defended himself. He had done nothing wrong. They said he had. They invoked God's predictability. Job responded that God was not predictable in his case.

The fourth comforter, a young man, had it right: Job did not have the right to call God into question.
Then God appeared and reinforced what the young man had said. Then Job repented. Then he was blessed."

I’m praying for you, DelMar and Ah Tabor. If either of your husbands are willing they might consider learning a trade. The corporate world is a killer of souls.

He's considered it but doesn't really want to go back to school. He says if anything he'd do electrician but I think the time investment, plus learning an entirely new field, is what's holding him back.

My mother-in-law also instilled in all her kids that they have to get "good" jobs, meaning white-collar and ideally six figures. So I think that little bit of upbringing sticks in his head, too (although she does say stuff like oh if you want to move, why don't you just work in a warehouse? My husband makes decent money, enough that we're able to live on one income if we have to, but he still feels like he's not "successful", and working in a warehouse would be stupid if he doesn't have to)

I understand. My husband was the same way (he’s retired now). A lot of his self-esteem and sense of success involved a good job. He’s said this to me many times.
