One-hour of exposure to burning gas stoves without ventilation MAY cause health problems??? Talk about running out of things to boss people around over.
My furnace was out for a week or so in November, so I was tempted to run my gas oven to keep the house warm. I found out this is not recommended because a small amount of carbon monoxide is formed when gas burns in the open.
In particular, you are not supposed to leave the oven door open and run it for hours. However, if you are roasting a turkey for 6 hours, that's OK, because you keep the door closed, so it limits the amount of gas burned.
Likewise the stove top burners produces a small amount of carbon monoxide. Under normal cooking conditions, the amounts produced are trivial, but using the oven to heat the house with the oven door left open can build up unhealthy or even dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
The current campaign is pure hype. It is true that some pollutants are released. However, the levels are safely low enough with normal cooking. There is no actual justification for eliminating gas stoves or home furnaces.
What's really happening is that TPTB are trying to reduce gas consumption in the US by some marginal amount, to free up more to ship to Europe, to help in the anti-Russia effort.
