Would you not need to use an absolute ton of tea tree oil to have an actual adverse effect though (assuming it is so bad for men)?

It's difficult to say because we don't have the full details of this study yet.

I do find it interesting though that the article in the OP tries to imply that "essential oils used in soaps, cleaning products and home remedies ... could explain why boys have developed a condition called prepubertal gynecomastia."

But of course, there's tons of other shit in name brand soaps that is likely harmful, and there are also other things that cause manboobs -- like the soy that's in everything these days.

The fact that they try to claim essential oils are the main cause makes me a little skeptical of the study in general. Like I said, the previous study on this simply tested certain soaps and shampoos on a small number of boys, then claimed the essential oils in the soaps -- not other chemicals in the soaps, the boys' diets, etc. -- were the sole cause.

It kind of stinks of an ulterior motive to attack natural healthcare products.

Also a small boy's body is not like a 20 year old with natural test levels high enough to fight that off.

I don't know how much more a child's skin absorbs or lets things through membranes, but it probably is not as strong as a grown man. My kids get rashes so much easier than my wife and I, that it's something I have to constantly watch out for when changing their clothes. We using chemical free baby wash soaps, lotions made out of beeswax, etc. Still not enough sometimes. Sometimes it's just allergies, sometimes its not.

Yep, which is why you have to be skeptical of these studies. Both the way they're conducted and what they're conducted on is very political.

They've been giving babies soy formula for decades, for instance, but they're quick to jump on any sort of natural healthcare and make sweeping claims about their risks.

Natural healthcare is great.

But nature can be pretty bad. Natural doesn't equal good. Nature includes some nasty shit like jelly fish, water moccasins, poison ivy,rip currents, sharks, and poisonous berrys. Go hangout in the woods or swim near a Jetty and you'll see just how friendly nature is.

Herbs, minerals, and amino acids can be beneficial and bad. St.John's wart can cause spotty eyes and contributes to blindness overtime. Melatonin can fuck up your pineal gland and sleep cycles overtime. Megadose your zinc levels with pills and your copper levels will not be good.take to much iron and see how you feel.

If anything the negative possibilities of natural products is a testament to their potential to effect the body. In a good or bad way.
