hahaha Craiglist can be sketchy. Does anyone think that Myspace will come back? I checked out the site a while back and it seemed to have gotten a facelift.

After Timberlake bought it, they try to make it cool again, it mostly used by bands and artists, the new user interface is aimed at the mobile demographic, the main purpose now is music, which is useless since most people just download music to theirs phones.

I want something more dangerous than what Facebook has become. Where can I find that?

Day game. Night game. Climb a cell phone tower.

This reminded me of Gilbert Grape.

"Matches in the gas tank. Boom. Boom."

Less than no chance.

@dads good post and an accurate representation I think. Facebook was at one stage an outlet for teenagers etc to network with their friends and be the little wankers they really are while preventing family members from seeing it - they could be who they really were. As soon as family started signing up, they had to modify their Facebook profiles into the 'good' versions of themselves. I see mainly businesses registering for Facebook now.

My prediction is that Facebook will be dead or at least a shell of its former self in five years... sucks to be anyone who invested in it.

I wonder, did the survey ever adjust for age, or the shift of age demographics?
A 15 yr old now and a 15 year old back in 2009 is two completely different things, and with the way tech progresses, it might as well be a completely different world within those age groups.

On top of that, on Facebook, privacy is a bit of an issue. Those teens aren't exactly keen on sharing how their (illegal) weekend was if their future employer and their parents are watching.

If you click on the link, you can see the interview with the study's designer. They used cohort ranges. I can't remember exactly what ages, but it was a big enough age bracket to encompass most of the same people. Also, the it's a mere three-year study, so there won't be many people leaving the age bracket.

Further, one of the purposes of the study was to capture "different" people to see if their preferences were different from the people that came before them. That's not a bug, it's a feature.

The study wasn't supposed to simply see whether the same people were losing interest in Facebook; it was designed to see if the next group of teens would switch.

Anyone who invested in it has done quite well at this point. Not sure why it would suck to be them right now.

Facebook is dying because it used to be underground but became Your Mom and Your School all rolled into one.

Now it tells you what you can and can't say and who you can and can't talk to. Who the fuck needs that?

I refuse to post on my page, but support the Return of Kings page...which keeps getting suspensions! Believe me, there is nothing offensive about that page, Facebook is just playing schoolmarm to try and control everyone.

As I said, Your Mom and Your School, all rolled into one.

A year or two ago I had almost no family members on Facebook. Now I have damn near all of my aunts, uncles, and family friends.

None of them really understand how to appropriately like or comment on anything. I always get likes on wall posts from friends that are three years old.

Or I'll get tagged in a photo at a club and get a comment like "Grandma's sick again. Her medication upsets her stomach. She went to the toilet three times last night. Love you." and I'm like wtf?

I disabled fb some months ago and I don't miss it at all. I've not completely deleted it because it sort of serves as a photo album. No doubt I'll move all the pictures on there to my computer and delete it in time.

I also think part of the reason for the decline of facebook is due too the fact that some people just arent interested in what the majority of people that may or may not be their friends are doing. I dont really like keeping tabs (so to speak) on people I would rather just forget, let them fade hahahaha. Not out of dislike, rather I dont care about them or their lives.

The whole point was to reconnect, how many do ?

I am very pessimistic about Facebook shares. Will be interesting to see them crash in the future.

Still - I am surprised at how well they are doing at the moment (since the inital drop after they were first floated).

I try not to think too much about the reasons why, since when it comes to the stock market I don't think anyone truly knows the reason behind any move.

What if all of your parents and family members joined this forum?

All the posts you made in the past, present and future will now be used against you. You best believe Mama Ali is going to snap if she saw that Blackout Game post. All those pics Athlone post in the 10 thread, best believe Mama Athlone is gonna have something to say about it.

The forum will turn into a cool place where everyone can post and discuss freely, to a hellzone where everyone's parents are spying on them.

And that is why teens are dipping out on Facebook.

I deleted my Facebook a while back and I'm happy with the decision.

Myspace was awesome back in the day, like 2005. You could effectively run 'Come over to my place.' game. It was before it got really popular and the media had run their scare campaigns attempting to convince girls that every guy on the website was a stalker. Nobody knew what to make of it, girls would be happy to head over and hang out immediately, something that is rare today. After a few years it became like online dating is now, nearly all thirsty dudes.

Facebook began to lose it's popularity a few years ago. I always considered it stupid, but jumped on the train. At first it was interesting to connect with people I lost touch with. After a while it became an attention whore party with the pics and endless status updates.

I agree with Rosca, there's no privacy. I knew guys who added their bosses to FB, friends who added multiple family members, just idiotic stuff. Basically everything you posted on there became news to everyone you knew immediately. And what if you didn't accept their add? What do you have to hide? They added that limited profile stuff, but still.

Unless I was advertising a business, I don't see the point. I talk to some younger guys, and they say 'Well people don't think I'm normal if I don't have facebook.'

I tell them that will all change once you get past the age where nobody has an identity or understands who they are.

I watched the video Roosh posted and it confirmed my decision not to join.

If you can't be sure you're posting to all of your friends unless you pay for it, what's the point?

As an old person this is fine with me. The idea that high school kids ought to be defining what's cool and useful for everyone else is pretty effin' stupid. Especially since today kids are about as uncool as you can get.

I use FB to keep in touch with a broad social network of people that I otherwise would not keep in contact with. Friends in other cutie. Aquantences in my city who I see every once in a while. It works perfectly for that.

Anyone that invested their cash pre-July 2013 in FB shares would have made a tidy profit.

What happened in July that made the stock rise so quickly like that?

There was a big concern regarding Facebook revenue via mobile before July and they delivered on this in the Q2 earnings and that's why the stock popped. Since then FB has shown to continuously invest in improving the mobile experience and revenues which is great for shareholders.

I got into a big position in FB shares right after July and have been up ~ 40% since then. I plan to hold on to it for a long time for 3 reasons :

1. Yes FB is becoming uncool but it is still and will be the best way people are keeping in touch. It provides valuable personal information to advertisers to target their audience. Mobile advertising is on the rise and FB and Google are ready to cash on it.

2. Users in many countries abroad still consider FB cool and the the opportunity for FB to tap into that growing market is tremendous.

3. Instagram which all the teens seem to flocking to is still owned by FB

Usually a company is considered 'fair value' if the value of the company is around x10 years of annual earnings.

I haven't looked at the data but I'd be surprised if it wasn't very overvalued.
