I think that the nature of politics and the path of history is going to make the future, especially with the upcoming Trumpening (whether he wins or not), increasingly difficult to predict.
So, I expect the great bifurcation to initiate very soon:

Bifurcation theory studies and classifies phenomena characterized by sudden shifts in behavior arising from small changes in circumstances, analysing how the qualitative nature of equation solutions depends on the parameters that appear in the equation. This may lead to sudden and dramatic changes, for example the unpredictable timing and magnitude of a landslide.

Why I think this year is different:
- Too many increasingly violent interests. See
Black Bolshevik Lives Matter (BLM)
- High popularity of anti-establishment candidates (Sanders and Trump)
- Employment, as measured by Labor Force Participation Rate, continues to drop and nobody mainstream appears to be acknowledging reality, but instead talks about government manipulated "unemployment" numbers. This is in spite of the fact that something like 38% of people over 16 are not working.
- The seeds that heavily manipulated and bureaucratized
public schools cultural marxist academies planted in the 20th century have finally started to bear fruit. See feminism, BLM, White Privilege, science as a religion, atheism as a religion, anti-christianity and pro-islam as a religion, etc.
Sanders or Trump being elected are the first, clean split off of the fairly boring trend line. The splits after that are events following either election that result in swift, unpredictable changes. In either case, there is enough inertia in the upcoming chaos that anything could really happen.
I'm not sure if Hillary being elected will also trigger the bifurcation. Hillary may delay the great unraveling until 2020. Or something else will trigger it. There's simply too much bad inertia, but the existing congress/lobbyist/education/bullshit bubble may be able to forestall the trigger for just another presidential cycle.
With Sanders being a weak, old, anti-establishment communist, I fully expect the establishment left wing to ensure that
Natural Causes happens sooner rather than later. So, his running mate will have a larger impact than himself. Backlash by his followers will depend heavily on what has happened in the BLM movement (which isn't his follower contingent, but they will train and breed this antagonism when they see the opportunity). The momentum of the U.S. winning since the Industrial Revolution is almost completely spent. Too much welfare, communist ideas, public school fueling of self-hate and the breakdown of the family unit has finally become too much for the U.S. to maintain itself on top. Death by a thousand cuts. The strong, powerful, only birth of a place that created the
Declaration of Independence will be maintained only by name, not in ideas, and will start to balkanize.
Trump being elected is the only real chance of America being the place of Liberty and Capitalism as ideas to survive. This puts him in direct opposition to the BLM and other offshoot movements.
Blocking off airports and malls at Christmas is only the start. The only way to successfully deal with the self-hating useful idiots will be swift violence, if that is the path chosen.
However, the use of violence to stop the growing, indoctrinated mob, will breed even more radical elements.
BLM and the like will have a target on Trump's back, so his Vice President, if change is to happen in a good way, will have to be an even bigger shitlord and troll that he is himself. Or, some other strange variant that instills too much fear in the establishment to go after Trump, if it is even possible to cause fear in those whose amygdala's are fundamentally damaged.
I'll be prepared, with my savings, ready to move to a more favorable state, make sure my weapons are well-oiled with plentiful ammunition. And, lots of popcorn. Because it'll be entertaining for quite some time. Hopefully most of the forum members, including myself, will be able to stay out of the wrong kind of trouble. I'd rather help rebuild a nation founded on the ideas of liberty, capitalism, and equality of opportunity than have to ever use my weapons. If I see a favorable state, I'll run to it. But, I also accept the possibility of that never happening. We'll see, soon enough anyway.
That, and I'll have a lot of popcorn.
