The Baby Boomer Question

They completely don't care what will happen to their grandchildren. Doesn't even cross their minds.
My dad has gone to church every Sunday for 61 years, never even missed a holy day of obligation. Doesn't drink, got married young, never had a wild party phase, etc..

I show him footage of cities turning into non-white hellholes, and when he finally starts to agree it's getting bad he says "oh well I won't be around so I don't care".

My other uncle watches church service remotely because he says it's dangerous with the virus, but he has season tickets to an elite college basketball team and he goes to games with a mask on. He'll go to sportsball but not church

They are awful people as a whole. At least Asians don't hate their own people.
It is amazing that people don't even realize their own hypocrisy. The super bowl really showed this (although there are millions of other examples). Leaders have access to the best information and often ahead of the commoners. They are eating at restaurants, going to sports games and often taking off their masks, and going to parties without masks. Despite this, people still live in constant fear. However, this goes for boomers as well as younger people. Remember that many college students are demanding to have mask mandates.

Your uncle is a typical boomer. However, he is also a typical American. Many Americans of all generations are still swallowing the garbage the media tells them and refuse to ask basic questions.

Asians may not want to import massive waves of poor people from other nations. However, certain Asian nations like Cambodia and China are filled with greedy and cold-hearted people that won't hesitate to scam their fellow citizens (to include selling dangerous food) just because they want to buy a nicer phone or car. We also see how Arabs treat each other and it is not very positive. Of course, some nations are more civilized and respectful than others.

Boomers in China and Cambodia were largely responsible for Mao and Pol Pot's "excesses" though. We can fairly blame boomers in these countries for not making them better (to include many of the top leaders).

Cross post from another thread:

Endless fear porn started when the boomers were children.

Constant reminders every single week from the 1950s to the 1980s that the "evil" Soviet Union would supposedly destroy the entire western world in a nuclear war. Emergency nuclear war drills in school, with children training to "duck and cover" under tables and desks from bombs that never came. Thousands and thousands of "educational" films were made to psychologically beat the boomer children into a paranoid mess of fear and submission. Here's just 1 short example from the 1950s:

Then after the cold war ended, they switched the fear porn over to global warming/climate change, muslim terrorism, and now finally fear of diseases even when you don't have any symptoms. Also, most of the boomers are addicted to watching television/listening only to mainstream sources as well.

The Boomer generation have been psychologically beat into total paranoid submission their entire lives.

Most rural Boomers I encounter are very likely totally unaware of the Boomer hate phenomenon. I'm quite sure they would be totally perplexed at the reasons given for it.

Yeah, a half million Boomers showed up for Woodstock. 70+ million Boomers didn't.

Maybe Woodstock isn't the issue? Maybe it's just an easy thing to make fun of? Maybe the actual problem is the narcissism and frivolity?

I don't see it in mainstream rural Boomers. Rural Boomers are probably the most down to Earth, grounded people left in the country. People who attack them are attacking the last vestige of old world Americans that remain.

Many rural Boomers are a bit out of touch with conditions in America today because it's degenerated at a pace that they can't keep up with.

I guess I'm a bit touchy about the Boomer situation not only because I'm a Boomer, but also because I saw it first hand and the Hollywood version of the Boomer generation--the version that's being portrayed by those who are playing the Boomer blame game-- is only one aspect of that generation.

Yeah rural American is the best. Very OLD WORLD and BASED. Now excuse me, I've got to go to Walmart so I can come back to my mobile home to watch T.V. all day. Btw, all my kids have moved far away or are meth addicts (or both). Did you know I'm great and amazing and nothing is my fault?

lol,..."harsh"

This is a theme I see repeated quite often by those who choose to hate on the Boomer generation--that they accept no blame for how society got configured during their time of influence.

Yet every generation after the Boomers place all the blame for the path society has taken during the influential periods of their *own* generations on someone else--the Boomers.

That's pretty much the Mt Everest of hypocrisy.

The boomers I've spoken to have no leg to stand on and are so out of touch it's mind boggling. Let's put some numbers on paper to put things in perspective. The average salary in 1970 in the US was about 10k per year. The average price of a home was approximately $17,000.

In 2022 the average salary is around 53,000, what is the average home price? 400k?

Then the culture rot and massive influx of workers.

When you hear a boomer make some braggard comment about buying their first house at 20 and how great they are, tell them to shut it. They were given everything in the most prosperous time in America. When the waves are high, even the fool can float. You could give given a chimp a dart board and they'd pick a winning stock before the dot com bubble.

So, the handful of oligarchs who control the economy and have allowed the borders to be open are a reason to condemn an entire generation?

The situations you speak of have taken place over the span of a few generations. Why is only one singled out for blame?

Anyone blaming the Boomer generation for all the western ills is not a serious person to listen to. They are a person who is seeking answers but they don't have the answers yet and need to be instructed to keep looking.

The flip side is that it really is remarkable at how brainwashed the boomer generation is as a whole. You can literally tell them who is doing it and why it is being done, and by the next day after their Fox News fill they are back to blaming the Chinese communist or the "damn socialists". I've never really encountered anything I can compare it too. With most people when you give them information they don't agree with they will argue with you. The boomers don't, they seem to accept it and agree, and then after another day of the TV telling them something different, it is as if the conversation you had with them never occurred.

Add in it was the boomers in France who voted heavily for Macron so their pensions would not be touched while leaving nothing behind for the next generation at all.

The boomers don't deserve all the blame. I don't know if the boomers deserve much of any blame. The most successfully brainwashed generation didn't do the brainwashing. It is only frustrating watching them age out and refuse to admit the problems can be solved at the next election or that the younger generation is "lazy".

All in all, the boomers were the first generation to not be looked up to by younger generations simply because they did not grow wiser or pass on much of anything. I will do everything I can to not repeat this as I grow older and hopefully wiser.

There's truth to what you say about the Boomer generation being out of touch with today's cultural and political realities.

But the brainwashing didn't stop with the Boomer generation. The level of propaganda being pushed on today's younger generations is at a ridiculous level--and a surprising number of the people who inhabit the younger generations accept it without question.

The most extreme elements of the counter culture which existed in the 60's pales in comparison to what is accepted as mainstream culture today.

Maybe because as a millenial I've interacted with them often. Their arrogance and haughty attitude towards us younger generations when they had it so easy is infuriatingly out of touch.

I have way more in retirement savings than the average boomer according to the stats and earn more than many I've spoken to if they are not retired, yet they still have the audacity to think they are better than me and try to give me idiotic advice. All this in a much more competitive time.

I'm not even 40 by the way. If that's not a denial of the objective reality, I'm not sure what is. It's a brand of know it allism that has no bounds.

The brainwashing will never stop, at least not until the good guys are in power again.

Today's propaganda is so over the top that many young people reject it. There are certainly many who do accept it, but I would say it is about 50/50.

Boomers had much more believable propaganda. I watch old TV shows simply because they are better than anything on TV today. But now I am aware of what is happened, I can pick up on the very subtle propaganda the boomers were poisoned with. It was very well done v. today's over the top propaganda. So I understand why they think the way they do. And I understand they are in their golden years and don't want to stress about the issues we face too much. But at the same time I understand why the younger generations roll their eyes and make fun of them.

They wake up every day, like the rest of us and make a choice. And they choose to remain in their comfort zone and ignore the realities young people face. So the young people wake up and choose to make fun of them.

I've interacted with them continually for my entire life. They're a generation like any other.

If you believe the problems of society are generational, then you have to blame the generations preceding the Boomers for two world wars in a span of 30 years that killed 10s of millions of people and destroyed entire cities around the world.

But the problems aren't caused by the people.

What do you suggest that they do?

The people of America have just been along for the ride ever since Lincoln declared that a State which voluntarily joined the Union couldn't voluntarily leave the union.

All of this blame placed on one generation is ridiculous. The big picture is, once a huge, powerful central government takes control of a nation, the people of that nation are just along for the ride.

What's going on started long before the Boomer generation. I don't know how far back one would have to look to see the beginning of it--Ancient Rome?
