Saying a band is the best is both subjective and provable¨:
1 Which band has sold the most records of all time: Beatles
2 Which band has had their songs covered the most: Beatles
3.Which bands albums always appear on any music critic or magazines top 10: Beatles
4. In a vote by musicians (done by VHI) years ago who came out as the best musicians of the 20th century: Beatles
5 In Time magazines 100 most influential people of the 20th century which was the only band to make the list: Beatles
6. When Ive taken a dump in the bathroom of an Egyptian restaurant or gone to a shitty bar in Mexico, which foreign artist was I more likely to hear: the Beatles
7. Who were the most innovative and creative musicians of the 20 century (i.e first to make music videos, add oriental instruments, etc) Beatles
8. Only artists to have 5 songs in the top 10 at the same time: Beatles.
Cmon guys how much more evidence do you need. Now if you prefer another band or group, I understand we all have different tastes. But objectively speaking there is no denying they were the best, most popular and most well respected by their peers.
As to how beta Lennon and Mcartney became, in that I am in total agreement. Something about having all the women in the world wanting to fuck you and having slayed thousands of pussies, must have fucked with their heads. I think there are no men in history who had access to more young top pussy than they did. In Genghis Khans time, they didnt have airplanes and he had to rape most of the babes he plundered. So he might come in as a far 2nd. There should be some psychological study done on them, because as young bad ass rockers they were completely alpha.

Except that whole Yoko Ono thing.

If the devil made me a deal, where i could have any woman I wanted for 10 years and then I would have to settle for only Yoko Ono afterwards, I would take it in an instant. Those would be some of the most epic memorable 10 years in the history of man haha. In the end, Lennon was a lucky guy......very few people can claim to have the experiences he went through.

Never cared for the Beetles or Bob Markey. People look at me like I'm crazy when I say that. Until I ask them which their favorite album was, and they give me a look of confusion and respond with........greatest hits?

Agree it's a totally subjective choice. I see the Beatles as being the creators of pop music. Great songwriters and great acoustic guitar players. The Stones are totally a blues based band. The Stones took the basic format of the blues, added some country influences (listen to Exile on Main Street), to create their own hybrid. I prefer the blues, so I vote Stones. I don't think there are 4 better albums than Exile on Main Street, Beggar's Banquet, Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers. From a live performance standard, the Stones are to me clearly the better band (but the Stones have been in existence longer, so they've had much more opportunity to perfect their live sound plus utilize modern technology as applied to the live setting).

I'd have to go with the Beatles, but I'd put Mana in my top three. They are the only band that I have flown to another city to see. They're still kickin and put on amazing shows....and always tons of latinas.

Sorry man, Mana is horrible, in Mexico we call the "efecto Maná" to every band that has more than 3 albums that sound exactly the same.

The Beatles are the greatest band of all time, Sgt. Pepper, White Album and Abbey Road are masterpieces.

Radiohead is the greatest band of the last 25 years. Their musical evolution is amazing.

Led Zepp, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Oasis/Blur, Arcade Fire are incredible bands and the latter still has a lot of good years left.

I don't give a shit if the members of a band are alpha or not, yeah Mick Jagger fucking 4,000 different chicks is great but I care about the music. And those guys make/made the best music .

I used to like the Beatles a lot when I was pre-teen, before my rational and critical thinking faculties had fully developed. Now, while I can appreciate their talent and undeniably important impact on the history of music, I find them hard to listen to. Without getting into their personal lives at all, too much of their lyrics just reek of betaness, which is a fine strategy for selling pop albums to teenage girls, but I've strictly limited my intake of pop-culture beta role models.

And please say to me
You'll let me hold your hand
You'll let me hold your hand
I want to hold your hand

The Beatles were such innovators of music. They did things that back then was considered insanely radical but now we take for granted.

The Beatles were the first band to write all their own material. Until then bands and singers had songs written for them. They created the first real concept album with Sgt.Pepper, that had never been done before. Something els is how brave the were musically. They were the most popular band in the world and could have continued touring and selling out concerts with their two minute pop songs but Lennon and McCartney decided after the States tour that they would never tour again and instead would become a studio band. They went from songs like Love Me Do and Help to writing songs like Tomorrow Never Knows,Yer Blues and Strawberry Fields. The contrast simply could not be starker,it was incredibly brave and something few bands are willing to attempt today. Listen to their early albums like Beatles For Sale or even Rubber Soul and then listen to the White Album or Abbey Road. They re-invented themselves and music in general.

Statistics do lie,Lady Ga Ga has outsold Radiohead but few would argue that she is more talented. However the statistics with the Beatles are mind blowing, most number ones, most album number ones, three number one albums in one year, first album to debut at number one, most album sales in the US,20 number ones in the US,more record sales in US then any other artist......it's mind boggling how successful they were.

I personally prefer the Stones or Bowie but there is no doubting that The Beatles were the best band in history. They changed music from what it was to what it is.

I can already see this thread going down the shitter with people putting comments like this that won't go anywhere. You think your comment is gonna make him stop listening to Mana?

After many years I still can't choose which lead singer is better.

Bon Scott, the old singer who died (of drinking).

or

Brian Johnson, lead singer for the last 30 years.

Best song: Let there be rock (with Bon Scott)

The guitars are amazing in this one.

Agreed, but I think I prefer Brian Johnson.

The interesting is, their voices are extremely similar in my opinion, this was very lucky for the band after Bon's death.

Back when I was not a big ACDC fan and listened to many of ACDC's most popular songs with both singers, I couldn't even tell they were 2 different singers at all.

I have too. I have to remember from what time period the song is to know who the singer is. They both have their own qualities so it's very hard to choose.

I hope to see them live someday. Angus Young actually lives in Holland not far from where I live. I've been to his massive house once but he wasn't there haha

Gonna go with the Brian Johnson era. I think Back in Black and For Those About to Rock are two of the strongest hard rock albums ever. But, "Highway to Hell," from the Bon Scott days, is my all time favorite AC/DC track.

People always like a band or musician just because they're supposed to.

Bro, those are the type of lyrics that all pop and rock singers used circa 1964. So how can you blame someone for being part of a generation. It took the beatles around 1966 to make rock and pop an art form and to use much deeper lyrics. You are just talking about their earlier years, when they and everyone used traditional sappy love lyrics. After those early years The Beatles were all innovation, great lyrics, craft and pure art. So dont let ignorance affect what you listen to.

Great post. Now that is what I call a non biased, honest, rational and informative opinion. You can love and have strong emotions for something, but an intelligent man seeks and finds the truth. Also, unlike women, he uses the rational part of his brain when making an argument. This was not a which is my favourite band thread, but one that tried to get at a certain truth.
I dont really like Bowie or Dylan, for example, but I can certainly give those men credit for being some of the best musicians of their generation.
Women use the democratic method of argument: All of us are equal, so my opinion and taste are worth the same as everybody elses. Thus, for women there is no real truth. Gentlemen, lets not give into this female mindset

Best Band of all time? In my opinion its the Beatles, but its a question that's fun to debate.

When listening to music I put aside the alpha/beta perspective and listen to what I enjoy. But for those curious Paul McCartney did write a song called "Another Girl" with the below lyrics:

For I have got another girl, another girl.
You're making me say that I've got nobody but you,
But as from today, well, I've got somebody that's new.
I ain't no fool and I don't take what I don't want,
For I have got another girl, another girl.
She's sweeter than all the girls and I met quite a few

And I had a slight chuckle listening to 'Back in The USSR', considering how in 1968 the lyrics were meant to be ironic but in 2012 some RVF members would appreciate this to be sincere:

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always on my my my my my my my my my mind
